Artist Baptiste Debombourg

Baptiste Debombourg, b1978 in France, is a talented Artist hailing from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In France he is “one of the most outstanding young artists of his generation” (Daniel Strehli, Le Figaro). 

Debombourg is known for his spatial arrangements, which are made from objects and materials that are all commonly found in our everyday lives. These destroyed pieces which have been rebuilt, convey their own narratives which can be interpreted in many ways but mostly as a commentary or a socially critical statement about the world we live in where the destroyed objects become the storytellers through Debombourg’s intervention. The stories that they tell however, are unrelated to their own functionality and materialistic purpose, which is in turn reinvented. Often his works are the result of poetic transformations.

The installation series Debombourg has created are ephemeral in situ works that are designed by the artist, starting from the historical and architectural context of a place: Solar Flare, Hypertrophy and outgrowth of a wall or an entire room - the sculpted works interrogate the memory of places that are changing our perception of space and our movement in it, thus demonstrating the subtle effects of our environment on our behavior and history.

The Aérial exhibition is the first part of the new series of shows, which in the coming years will transform the Column Hall of the former Benedictine Abbey into a cultural space. The form of a giant, solidified ice wave that floods the Column Hall, Aérial, reinforces in light and space, while  questioning  the spiritual dimension of the place.

For the first part of the new series of shows titled Spiritual Ground, the artist has created a stunning spatial installation, a wave of broken glass is installed entering the space from the windows ‘carrying’ with it the light from the outside that passes through the glass. The fact that the Abbey’s Column Hall is a historically charged space whose original function has changed so many times over the centuries, contributes to making the installation even more interesting. In the past it functioned as a beggars Institute, a concentration camp, a Cologne Gestapo prison and as a mental hospital. Therefore, in playing with the idea of the multiple transformations of the space, Baptiste Debombourg chose glass as a material, which in a way reflects those complexities and changes. At the same time, by using glass, it is as if he is referencing the space’s original function. Like a church window, the Aérial installation allows light to come in albeit in an altered state as it conveys spirituality and through its construction, also enhances its dramatic looks as the shattered glass embraces the ground and becomes part of the space.”

Evolución de la pintura

Los diseñadores españoles Culdesac han creado la serie “Evolución de la pintura” para VALENTINE.

"La pintura, tras viajar a través de la cultura, la historia, el arte y los sentidos, vuelve para encarnarse en sus instrumentos de trabajo. Pinceles, brochas y rodillos cuentan la leyenda de su evolución natural recreando un árbol genealógico fantástico que escribe la historia de la pintura Valentine.

Sus mutaciones genéticas dan lugar a instrumentos imaginativos: pinceles compás, látigo o de péndulo dan pistas sobre el comportamiento de la pintura a través de sus trazos y a través de la historia.

CuldeSac vuelve a interpretar el universo Valentine, un mundo rico en matices donde la pintura no es una mera herramienta sino materia en sí misma, un personaje vivo que aporta carácter a sus superficies.

Las experiencias CuldeSac aplicadas al mundo Valentine siguen un hilo narrativo que, siempre elevando la pintura a una categoría superior, cuenta las historias nunca contadas de la experiencia Valentine. Una Galería de Arte, un yacimiento arqueológico, una cena de ensueño o una exclusiva joyería han mostrado los colores Valentine desde otro prisma: el del simbolismo del color y su omnipresencia en nuestras vidas.”
