FROM MY CLOSET - The Nantucket Red Chino

These pants are probably the most popular trend in men’s fashion right now. Even the most conservative of guys try to make this chino work. That being said, those preppy, traditional men are really the only ones who even try. The truth is, it can be very difficult to make this shade look cool. But, with a few gray and black basics, these pants can go from the horse race tracks to the nighttime streets.

Look 1 - This cool and casual look allows the pants to do the statement making. Using the neutrals black, gray, and white helps the pants become a little less ‘private school’ and a little more ‘public school.’

Shirt and Pants, Tommy Hilfiger

Belt, Michael Kors

Look 2 - This jacket is something new that I have been dying to break out of my closet. It gives a punky edge to the soft red that comes with the chinos. Once I am in Manhattan - and there are actual places to go - this jacket will get me everywhere from class to clubs.

How will you where Nantucket red now that you see that it is not just for the classy and collegiate?

FROM MY CLOSET - The Shorts Suit

Whenever I see a suit that is set with a pair of shorts, I cringe a little bit. A blazer with matching shorts makes me think of something mothers put their five year olds in at weddings. I dissected the trend and added contrast between the top and bottom. This is best way to wear a shorts suit when you are an adult. Of course, I always say on this blog, it is the attitude with which you wear something that makes a good outfit.

Look 1 - This is something I would wear to go out with friends at night. The Gray blazer over the white t-shirt makes it less formal and therefore less childish.

Blazer, Tommy Hilfiger

T-shirt and Shorts,Old Navy

Belt, Michael Kors

Look 2 - My day look has more earth tones in it. I switched out the t-shirt for an untucked button up to give it the same casual effect as the nighttime look.

Shorts, Tommy Hilfiger

FROM MY CLOSET - The Floral Shirt

A print like the one on this shirt is always a huge challenge for the average male. Most guys (if they can even bring themselves to purchase something this bold) would wear it with a pair of blue jeans. That would be a huge mistake. If you are going to wear a shirt like this, then you need to show the world that you can wear a shirt like this.

Look 1 - When I bought the shirt, this cardigan just happened to be hanging right next to it. It has been said that there is no cool way to wear a cardigan. I beg to differ. Color blocking is probably the most modern way to wear one, so remember that next time you are afraid to take the risk. The green trousers really speak for themselves.

Belt and Chinos, Tommy Hilfiger

Look 2 - It might be hard to tell, but I love denim more than anyone on this earth. It is the sturdiest, chicest, most versatile material in the world. That being said, stop wearing denim pants all the time and opt for a shirt or a jacket. You can wear any colored pant with this look, but I chose white so that I could keep the outfit toned down. A shirt like this deserves all the attention.

FROM MY CLOSET - The Royal Blue Blazer

In this inaugural series, “From My Closet,” I am showing you two ways to style a royal blue blazer for two very different times of day.

Daytime Look - Whenever I hear daytime, the first phrase that comes to mind is dressy casual. I never want to look too dressed up when I am performing my daytime activities (work, errands, etc.) However, I am a firm believer that one should always look his best, just in case you run into one of your frenemies at, say, the grocery store. Like Ms. Wintour says, “if you can’t look better than your competition, just dress better.”

Blazer, Express

Shirt and Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger

Belt, Michael Kors

T-shirt (wrapped around waist), Banana Republic

Nighttime Look - When the sky darkens, and you are on your way out to some dinner or party, it is essential that you put the blue jeans away, and bring the black chinos into action. I always think it is better to go more minimalist for night, simply because it gives off a cooler vibe. The ascot also adds a cheeky touch to the basic black and blue.

Blazer, Express

Shirt and Pants, Calvin Klein

Ascot, Van Heusen
