Good early morning read from Luke 5. In our home church we are going through the book of Luke together, and it has come alive more than ever! As I read in chapter 5 today, where Jesus called the disciples to be “fishers of men”, I’m floored again by their response: verse 11, “so when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook ALL and followed Him.” They left their boats there, their families, jobs, homes, belongings…EVERYTHING…because what they had witnessed and experienced far outweighed the value of anything in their lives!
How quick are we try to reason with God about why we can’t go now, or why we can’t obey Him now. We say “Christianease” things like, “God, you know my heart, you know I love you, BUT…” We gotta throw the buts out. I think a good practice would be to take notice how many times we say “but” to God, as if He’d see our view and chambers His mind.
I want to be on the receiving end like the disciples, who experienced life to the fullest because they chose to REALLY follow Him! Think of all they would have missed! Think of all WE would have missed! It only makes sense to trust the God who calms the sea, loads our nets, and gave His life!
Also, if you haven’t read the book “Follow Me” by David Platt (forward by @francischan which hooked me quick!) Read it! Such a great book about getting real with following Jesus!
Have a great day!:)
