Bougainvillea ‘Raspberry Ice’ - While bougainvillea have legendary flowering displays, the flowers themselves are actually tiny. Most of the flash comes from the specialized leaf-like structures called bracts that grow around the tiny flowers. These are not actually flower petals or part of the flower in any way, but they sure add some zing to the viewing experience.
Poinsettia bracts and flowers are yet another well known example of this phenomenon.
