Knit Socks.

When I ask new knitters what they most want to be able to make, the most common answer is ‘I want to be able to knit socks someday’. This is usually quickly followed by a ‘They look really hard though, so I’m sure it’ll be years before I will.’ I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t take years to acquire the skills to knit socks. In fact, with minimal prerequisites it only takes a few hours of instruction to cover all the fundamentals.

Beginning on July 24th, I will be teaching a basic sock workshop at Firefly Fibers where we will cover all the basics you need to launch your adventures in sock knitting. We’ll meet three Tuesdays in a row in order to get you fully acquainted and comfortable with sock construction and techniques. Complete the homework & attend class and you will walk away with your very first handmade sock. It’s that easy!

I’m a firm believer that life is too short to not be knitting projects you love. If you really want to knit socks, let’s get you knitting socks!

Don’t delay — registration closes Saturday, July 14!

A knitting class that will change your life.

As crafters, we will always make the occasional mistake. It doesn’t matter how experienced or skilled you are, it happens to all of us from time to time. Students often ask if they will reach a point where their knitting is ‘perfect’ — a golden age when their work will be error (and headache) free. My experience tells me that there isn’t a time when everything effortlessly flies off your needles with nary a problem, but there is a time when the mistakes no longer cause headaches. The key to this holy grail in knitting is learning to fix your mistakes.

In fact, I think one of the biggest transitions you can make as a knitter is to go from one who knits & makes mistakes to one who knits, makes mistakes, and has the skill & confidence to fix them. This graduation is as empowering as it is practical. Dropped a stitch? No problem. My needle fell out and I have 40 stitches to get back on somehow. Child’s play. Twisted stitch 12 rows down? No sweat. Mastering basic knitting fixes is 50% know-how & 50% guts and it will change your life.

Most knitters struggle through trial and error searching for the proper fix, slowly establishing the confidence it takes to correct any mistake that they happen to find in their work. If you want to save yourself some time & heartache, you can sign up for my Fixing Mistakes Part One & Fixing Mistakes Part Two at Firefly Fibers. Fixing Mistakes Part One covers the very basic fixes — all the things that are simple to correct, yet can really wreak havoc with a project if you don’t know how to fix it properly. Part One’s first run was so popular that Alisa at Firefly Fibers & I worked on a Part Two. This second installment builds on the first class, covering some more complex fixes and tips for handling errors.

If you are interested in Fixing Mistakes Part One and/or Fixing Mistakes Part Two, they will be running in June at Firefly Fibers in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Part One will run on June 2 from 10am - 12pm. Part Two is running on June 16 also from 10am - 12pm. There are still a couple seats available in each class, but seating is limited & the openings will surely fill fast.

For more information and to reserve your seat today, visit the store or contact Alisa at the shop. I’ll see you in class!
