Today we remember Ruffian, who died 38 years ago after she broke down in a match race with Foolish Pleasure known as “The Battle of the Sexes.” She was undefeated until this fateful day.

R.I.P. Ruffian, April 17, 1972 - July 7, 1975.

On a hot afternoon up at Belmont, they buried her facing the line, where she showed the whole world that she had enough heart, to finish in first every time, to finish in first every time.

Somehow, I COMPLETELY forgot it was Barbaro’s birthday yesterday.

I’ll never forget how devastated the racing world was to lose this amazing boy. I’ll never forget that Preakness…that was one of the worst days ever.

RIP Barbaro, we miss you more than anything. April 29, 2003-January 29, 2007
