To be fair to Transformers: Age of Extinction, there’s a couple of great speeches from Marky Mark in the film, my favorite being “yo, Optimus - if you kill that guy, it’ll be a mistake you regret for the rest of your life, and I know about mistakes that you regret for the rest of your life because I got my girlfriend pregnant in high school” and his daughter is right there, and there’s another where he talks Evil Bill Gates into doing the right thing because “you and me, we create things, and that’s the greatest gift you can give the world” and it’s pretty hilarious to the point I no longer want to just punch Marky Mark’s stupid baby-sized face.
On the other hand, there’s also jokes about an underage girl being “good at working the crank shaft” that seem to suggest that she’s been giving hand shandies to loads of men… well, I suppose it is Texas. Also she has a 20 year-old boyfriend who is in no way skeevy, which he proves by producing the laminated copy of Texas’ laws concerning relations with underage girls that he carries about on his person and proceeds to read it to her dad to reassure him that her daughter is not being statutory-raped, she’s just being fucked in an entirely wholesome manner by an older guy.
Being a huge nerd, I can also remember as far back as the last Transformers film and how it ended with Optimus saying he’d never give up on humans or abandon Earth, so it confused me that in this film he gives up on humans and abandons Earth, but I’m probably being too nerdy or over-literal in my interpretation of the films before this one in taking them at their actual word that the things they say are what they mean.
I don’t think it’s a very good film is what I am saying.
