The village of Lifta is one of three completely abandoned Arab villages in Israel. Villagers were displaced from their towns during the 1948 Israeli War of Independence. While most arab villages with either reinhabited or rebuilt, Lifta remained uninhabited after the end of the war and until today, not for lack of trying from the displaced villagers like Yacoub (pictured).
