May 17, Day 47:

-Got up early to make the almost 200km journey back through the mountains to Ha Giang from Meo Vac. It was run riding alone because I could speed and not worry about losing the group. The road wound through canyons ad valleys where I could see the next few turns, so I could really lay on the throttle- went like 60 the whole way and did the journey in 5 hours!
-In Ha Giang, had to just waste time until the night bus to hanoi, so I went to the park to read. A 10 year old kid named Pham Hoang Duy came up to me and wanted help with his English homework (really hard stuff- he was having to pick out the word with job-matching stress from a group of 4 or 5-syllable words). He really didn’t speak much English, so we had a weird conversation where he would type what he wanted to say on my phone and I would answer. Some examples of his questions: “What car lambo?” (YeahA I have no idea either…)
“What can you football”
“You have a girl?”
-A mom came and sat her daughters on my lap (without asking) to take photos.
-Went to a bia hoi place next to the park and had a few beers.
-For dinner, I paid 5 dollars for half of an entire spit-roasted duck! Really good flavor but kind of fatty texture made it chewy
- met up with the rest of the group, an Mark and I took the night bus back to hanoi
