Radio Disney is reducing its radio station outlets to one, KDIS-AM in Los Angeles, in September as it increases its investment in digital distribution platforms.
The radio network will be significantly reducing its workforce at local stations and make personnel cuts in ad sales and operations.
Radio Disney general manager Phil Guerini informed the staff in a memo on Aug. 13, saying the changes are to “optimize Radio Disney for long-term growth and better reflect the habits of the consumers we serve.”
Disney, with SiriusXM as a distribution partner for more than 12 years, has new agreements with ShowMobile, Slacker and Harman International’s Aha Radio, as well as a Top 30 syndication partnership.
“We will also be exploring new digital extensions of Radio Disney’s programming, including the Radio Disney Music Awards and Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing,” Guerini wrote.
Walt Disney Co. has made large-scale cuts in other divisions over the last 18 months, reducing staff at ESPN, ABC TV and its video game and Internet division.
