Christian Gottlieb Schick’s (August 15, 1776 – May 7, 1812) neoclassic paintings are identified for their romantic tendencies. His formative years were spent in Hohe Karlsschule – a school where Friedrich Schiller (1759 – 1805) was also a student. Schick’s friendship with noted sculptor Johann Heinrich von Dannecker was formed during this time. Between 1798 and 1802 he spent time in the studio of Jacques–Louis David before moving on to Rome where his skills evolved further to render a characteristic sentimental hue in his paintings.
