"Duet" by Terri Best

Choreography by Terri Best
Dancers: David Contreras and Anh Dillon

Seated Dancer. Jean-Louis Forain (French, 1852-1931). Oil on canvas. Ashmolean.

Forain shows his interest in backstage themes involving actual performers. Many images of dancers reveal Forain as being captivated by their activity, similar to what his friend Degas was doing. Forain’s Seated Dancer also shows his increasing fluidity in his approach to painting.
