Waistcoat, 1801. Eagle pattern. Purple & black. Silk compound weave, cotton tabby, cotton backing. In the collection of Colonial Williamsburg. I’m liking the eagle pattern on this one.

Man’s sleeveless waistcoat of purple and black silk woven in design of eagles and stars. Waistcoat has high standing neckline, front covered buttons to straight waist. Pockets are reached through straight self-fabric welts. Back of glazed black cotton is tied with tapes for fitting purposes. Waistcoat lined with white tabby cotton, stamped with “Charlestown Bleachery/ Finish” in oval frame of bowknot and leaves
