Today, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a challenge to a buffer zone law that protects patients and staff at clinics in Massachusetts from anti-choice harassment and violence.

Across the country, extreme, often violent, anti-choice protesters physically block access to clinics and intimidate people exercising their constitutionally protected rights.  Learn more about this issue and the laws that exist to protect patients and their doctors.

Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) pose as legitimate reproductive health centers. They have a track record of outright lying to people and work to dissuade people from exercising the right to choose.

This map from Salt Lake City, Utah shows how CPCs often position themselves right next to legitimate healthcare centers, so as to confuse people who are looking for comprehensive reproductive health services.

Pro-Life logic

Pro-Lifer: The baby is painfully murdered.

Pro-Choice: The fetus doesn’t feel anything when it’s aborted.

Pro-Lifer: But the baby grows and has a heart beat.

Pro-Choices: So do tumors. It’s still the persons choice to abort.

Pro-Lifer: The woman is just aborting because she didn’t use proper birth control.

Pro-Choice: Or because they aren’t in a secure situation in their life and can’t properly support a child? Or they simply don’t feel ready for a child or straight-out don’t want one?

Pro-Life: Then they should just have it and put it up for adoption.

Pro-Choice: Pregnancy isn’t a fuckin’ walk in the park- they have to go through some horrific shit for 9 months. It’s not a ‘quick fix’ solution. And adoption is not a fuckin’ ‘solve all woes’ solution either.

Pro-Life: *Spends millions on guilt-tripping monuments and marches.*

Pro-Choice: Wow, not like there’s loads of, ya know, actual living kids in poverty you could’ve helped using that.

Pro-life: *Religion*

Pro-Choice: Stop using your god as an excuse to be a douchebag.

Pro-lifers: All life is precious!

Pro-Choice: I hope you’re a vegan if you’re spouting out shit like that.

Pro-lifers: *Kills abortion doctors, bomb clinics and assault/harass/kidnap women seeking abortions*

Pro-Choice: What the fuck, dude.

Pro-Lifers: …

Pro-Lifers: FETUS!!11!!!1!!

Last night, I was at the Texas Capitol when this was said. With a straight face. She then refused to answer anymore questions on the bill (that she sponsored) to shut down all but 5 of Texas’s 47 abortion clinics, which will force rural poor to drive more than 1000 miles to get not only a safe abortion, but other services such as cervical cancer screenings, mammograms, fertility resources/family planning, contraception, pap smears, and more. These are places that are not just abortion clinics; for many families in Texas, they are health facilities that provide safe and affordable sexual health services.

Last night, I witnessed the Texas Legislation approve the bill to shut down the clinics. Last night, I witnessed my state tell me that I’m less than a human and I can’t make informed, healthy decisions about my body and reproductive rights. Last night, I saw myself having less rights than a gun owner simply because I am a female.

If this doesn’t get you out on the streets and getting angry, there’s no hope for this country.

Quote from: Anti-abortion pregnancy centers thrive in Texas as real clinics close, January 2, 2014

Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) pose as legitimate reproductive health centers. They have a track record of outright lying to women and work to dissuade people from exercising the right to choose. They often advertise as if they provide abortion services, drawing people in by promising free reproductive health services, including free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling.

12 Lifehacks you need to survive Dentistry

image

Let’s get it out in the open: Dentistry is tough. Whoever said it was easy, or said that we are “just dentists” did not have to go through 2 plus 4 grueling years of difficult medical-dental subjects, 2 years of demanding clinics, a mouthful of handling annoying patients, many, many months of mental conditioning for the boards and spending half a million pesos while you’re at it.

Given the conditions stated, it comes as to no surprise why people choose to shift from or quit Dentistry. Honestly, I came very close to doing that myself; but, thanks to the support of the people around me, I chose to carry on. In lieu of all the things that helped me stick it out to the very end, here are the lessons I’ve learned and will pass on to you to help you survive the difficult course that is Dentistry, my future Doctors.
