ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT TO HELP THESE SWEET BABIES!  Please reblog for signal boost and donate if you can!  Thanks!

Save Our Strays Rescue just took in 3 dogs who all are in need of heartworm treatment. Monty is a deer hound who was saved 30 minutes before he was scheduled to be euthanized in a shelter. Dottie is a min-pin/jack russell mix who was found living in a burnt down home with her 2 babies.  Hope is a chihuahua who was saved by the rescue after being an abuse victim.  She hid under a bed for several days before finally opening up to the fosters taking care of her.   All 3 dogs will undergo similar treatments for heartworm and this small rescue could use some help raising funds for all this medical.  Please reach out if you can for these three dogs.  Thank you!

In case any of you are curious as to what our life is looking like nowadays…Daisy is currently weighing in at an impressive 88lbs! She’s also developed a serious love for water. Any kind of water. Even the muddy gross kind at the Bark Park :|

Athena has lost a little weight, and is looking slim and trim on her new diet. We’ve also started training her to track- and let me tell you, chihuahuas make pretty good trackers!

is it true that all dogs are descended from wolves? i've heard a lot of people saying dogs like chihuahuas are descended from the fennec fox. that has always seemed wrong to me

Yes, sort of.

All dogs are descended from “wolf-like” creatures. They are not descended from the wolves you’d see in the wild or at the zoo. Dogs are the product of tens of thousands of years of evolution and domestication, whereas modern wolves are simply the product of evolution (minus human intervention).

All canines from the same group have the same number of chromosomes: wolves, domestic dogs, coyotes, jackals, dingoes, etc. (78 in 39 pairs).

Fennec foxes, on the other hand, only have 64.

Chihuahuas are not descended from the Fennec Fox. It is biologically impossible.
