I Find it Rather Disheartening...
That a week ago, nobody knew where or what Chechnya was, let alone find it on a map. Now that his ethnic identity is under the microscope, people debate whether or not being Chechnyan entails being white. Nobody seems to actually care about the details of the political climate that spawns international terrorism.
Even still, nobody actually seems to know anything about Chechnya, other than that they think we should attack them. No matter where people seem to stand, they still form a solid conviction without really knowing anything about it.
And when people do seem to care, the debate is not about the circumstances that leads to Chechnyan terrorism or what types of political situations that create terrorists (British and the IRA, Israel and Hamas, China and Tibet, et cetera) but that since the suspect has pale skin and is therefore white or born a Muslim and therefore not white.
He’s Chechnyan, nobody in our country seems to have the slightest clue what that even means.
