I’ve been gallery haunting.

You can see me, peering at the placecard and then stepping back a few steps to take in the image. Beholding .. which usually begins at a distance.

I went to Charles Bierk’s exhibit, Frames Per Second, a while ago when it opened at the Nicholas Metivier Gallery. What caught my attention in the newspaper announcement was that Bierk is a photographer, and these giant portraits are actually oil paintings. Very true-to-life portrayals! It makes me wonder whether a photography background or seeing-eye shows a world based on accuracy versus impression. 

Frames Per Second allows features the work of Peter Horvath, Chris Soos and Renie Spoelstra. Horvath and Soos created some playful collages with images taken on camera phones–the result being the kind of snap-shot, whiplash-like impression of a fast life.

I’m sorry to say that the exhibit is now over, but I’ll try to post my gallery hopping in a more timely manner so you can also take a look if you’re in Toronto.
