My weekly review for Waige! :) Can I just say this episode was amazing? Again, there was action, romance, adventure, and fun. AND more relationship AND character growth. Kudos to the writers!
.) We begin the episode with the Toby/Happy drama and their missed date. Walter has a talk with Toby. He tells him that having a relationship with a co-worker isn’t a good idea and is bad for their business. What does Toby do? He brings up PAIGE! He takes out the board that Walter was obviously hiding and points out that the stick figures are STILL ON IT. Let’s think about this for a moment. Walter could not even bring himself to erase STICK FIGURES of him and Paige holding hands. That is HUGE. He erased everything else. And Toby, who is the captain of the Waige ship, AMAZINGLY points this out to Walter!
.) Then we get a Waige moment. Walter tells Paige that having a romantic relationship with a co-worker isn’t a good idea. Interesting moment because watch the WAY he says this. Trying to be “casual” and smiley. I feel like he was testing out Paige’s opinion here. This is definitely something that Walter has thought a LOT about. How would their own relationship work while they also work together. It has been on his mind a lot, I’m sure. :)
.) I loved all the concerned Waige moments in this episode. It has become instinctive for them to worry about each other. Before our guys drive off with the witness, Walter casually tells Paige to “be careful.” Then after the whole van ordeal, Paige’s first concern is how Walter is doing. And she looked so worried!
.) We finally get to the moment when the team says their goodbyes to the witness. Paige says, “When you love someone, you take risks.” LOVE THIS SO MUCH! And of course the number 1 Waige shipper Toby right away emphasizes what Paige said to Walter! And Walter stares at Paige like she is pure sunshine. Like he always looks at her! AND this time, he does NOT even argue with Toby. Instead, at this moment, I feel like Walter knows that Toby is right…and there is no point in trying to negate something so obvious.
.) We have a whole theme of “risk” going throughout the episode. I love that. So we got an ending moment with Sly being afraid of eating a 2 day expired yogurt. So Toby TAKES it and eats it. He then tells Walter that if he doesn’t tell Paige how he feels, he will lose her to Drew. That Paige is Walter’s RISK. This is a guy who is afraid of NOTHING except his feelings for Paige. That’s his fear. AND FINALLY, this gets to Walter. Did you guys notice that Waige have their own theme music? It’s quite lovely. And it starts playing as Walter thinks to himself. And he knows Toby is right.
.) What does Walter do? He RUNS to get to Paige. Not walks. But runs by Toby AND thanks him! He sees Paige with Ralph from a window. And he just has this adoring look on his face as he smiles at the two people he LOVES. That’s his family. At this point, I was on twitter and Waige fans were thinking “YES, it’s finally happening!” AND THEN BAM. Of course, Drew is there. Did you see how quickly Walter’s face changed when he saw Drew? He went from smiling to almost crying. Elyes is SO GOOD with his expressions. His eyes always reveal so much. And you could FEEL the pain that Walter was in. So he walks away.
.) Before fans begin to freak out and worry, let’s discuss it like this. Drew is Ralph’s father. So he is visiting his son. It does NOT mean that Paige is back with him. She wants for Ralph’s dad to be in his life. That is all. She is handling this situation the best way she can. Also, Drew is living in Portland now. AND we know Paige isn’t leaving. So I do not think we’ll have to see Drew for much longer.
.) This is NOT the end of Waige. Walter didn’t lose his chance for good. There is still TIME and an opportunity for him to tell Paige how he feels. Let’s look at this in an optimistic view point. Walter was FINALLY READY to confess his feelings to Paige. He ran to see her. That is a HUGE step forward. This is a guy who fully accepted his feelings and wanted to take a RISK and do something about it. “When you love someone, you take a risk.” THIS!
Please make sure to watch the next 2 episodes. I feel like this episode was a set up for the upcoming new episodes. We will get more Waige focus. Also, this is a FEEL GOOD SHOW. I do not believe that episode 22 will end on a sour note. I think it will end on an optimistic note. The writers want for the fans to come back for season 2. So they have to give fans SOMETHING to hold onto during the summer hiatus. So keep the HOPE ALIVE!
