A startling new political science study concludes that corporate interests and mega wealthy individuals control U.S. policy to such a degree that “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”

The startling study, titled “Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens,” is slated to appear in an upcoming issue of Perspectives on Politics and was authored by Princeton University Professor Martin Gilens and Northwestern University Professor Benjamin Page. An early draft can be found here.

Miss Universe: Half-Black Miss Japan Criticized for Not Being ‘Japanese Enough’

Via (#Breitbart) “#ArianaMiyamoto, the first ever biracial woman to be crowned Miss Japan, is fighting off critics who say she “isn’t Japanese enough” to represent her country in the upcoming Miss Universe Pageant, because her father is black.

The 20-year-old speaks fluent Japanese and was born and raised in Sasebo, Nagasaki, but moved to the United States to complete high school before returning to Japan to pursue a career in modeling and pageantry.

She says she didn’t expect to excel in modeling due to her “foreigner look.” “It makes me uncomfortable to say she’s representing Japan,” wrote one online critic, reports The Daily Mail. “Is it okay to select a hafu to represent Japan?” asked another.

In Japan, Miyamoto is referred to as a “hafu,” a commonly used derogatory term given to someone who is biracial.
Others attacked the young woman because her face didn’t “look Japanese” or it was “too gaijin,” meaning outside person.

Although her mother is Japanese, the beauty queen is being labeled as an outsider by some who don’t feel she will adequately represent their native land. Some have expressed sentiments that their country deserves a “pure-blooded Japanese beauty.” In her first television appearance since being chosen to represent Japan in the upcoming pageant, Miyamoto explained to reporters how she’s very much Japanese on the inside, although she doesn’t necessarily “look Japanese on the outside.” Japan is one of the least ethnically diverse countries in the world, with 98 percent of the population being Japanese nationals.

Megumi Nishikura, who helmed the film Hafu: The Mixed-Race Experience in Japan, told NBC that Miyamoto’s selection as Miss Universe Japan is a huge step in the right direction for the country to redefine what it means to be Japanese.”

In a continuing cover-up by Child Protective Services (“CPS’) in Texas, Judge Keith Dean this week ordered the removal of a YouTube video produced by a 13-year-old boy that exposes the sexual and physical abuse that he and his brother endured while in CPS foster care. The video also reveals the 377-day nightmare suffered by him and his six siblings after they were ripped from their loving family and placed in four different foster care facilities out of county. The mother told Breitbart Texas “they are trying to rake this abuse under the rug.” Breitbart Texas has procured the YouTube video from a source outside the family.

Watch the video here

The YouTube video shows the young teenage boy holding homemade signs that convey the story of what CPS caseworkers, and the CPS foster care system, has done to his family. One sign says “I was beatened [sic] and sexually assaulted on a day to day basis while my Social Worker did Nothing.” He holds another sign saying “My abuse goes uninvestigated.”

The Supreme Court ruling will obviously have a serious effect on the 2016 presidential race, as Republican candidates may be forced to decide between what SCOTUS says is the law of the land and what their bigoted constituents want.

It is one thing for Alabama to defy the federal government. Presidential elections are not parochial affairs decided by a small clique of racist crackers. As the last two elections have shown, the American people are far more open minded and socially liberal than the GOP chooses to believe.

So you can be like [John] Price, who claims that, “He’s a loving God and he would allow persecution for a good purpose.” Or you can accept that gays and lesbians are just folks like us who want the same things we want, or at the very least bow to the inevitable, like those 300 Republicans [who filed a brief asking the Supreme Court to recognize same-sex marriage], and even if only out of self-interest, do the right thing.

But if you want to flee America instead, feel free. You won’t be missed.

Read the whole thing, it’s really great. Here are a few selected quotes, emphasis in bold is mine.

Contrary to the emotional blackmail some leftists are attempting to peddle, Baltimore is not America’s problem or shame. That failed city is solely and completely a Democrat problem. Like many failed cities, Detroit comes to mind, and every city besieged recently by rioting, Democrats and their union pals have had carte blanche to inflict their ideas and policies on Baltimore since 1967, the last time there was a Republican Mayor.

In 2012, after four years of his own failed policies, President Obama won a whopping 87.4% of the Baltimore City vote. Democrats run the city of Baltimore, the unions, the schools, and, yes, the police force. Since 1969, there have only been only been two Republican governors of the State of Maryland….

Every single member of the Baltimore city council is a Democrat.

It is the free people of Baltimore who elected Mayor Room-To-Destroy.

Poverty has nothing to do with it….Where I currently reside here in Watauga County, North Carolina, the poverty level is 31.3%. Median income is only $34,293. In both of those areas we are much worse off than Baltimore, that has a poverty rate of only 23.8% and a median income of $41,385….Despite all that, we don’t riot here in Watauga County. Thankfully, we have not been poisoned by the same left-wing culture that is rotting Baltimore, and so many other cities like it, from the inside out….We take pride in our community, and are grateful for what we do have….One attitude we don’t have here is the soul-killing belief that somebody owes us something, which, of course, is a recipe for discontent. Because if you’re not getting what’s owed to you, how can you be anything but angry?

After Democrat policies result in despair and anarchy, Democrats always demand more of the same, only bigger.

And the media goes right along.

And things only get worse.

It’s not due out until March 2015, but the Battlefield: Hardline video game is already causing conservatives to whine.

Oh, it’s not the gameplay they’re bitching about, or the guns and killing people. They’re pissed off about the villains you have to shoot your way past. As it turns out, some of the antagonists in the game are…

A whopping 95 percent of respondents to a BBC straw poll have said that they think multiculturalism in Britain is a failure. The poll was taken yesterday morning during the BBC’s Saturday Morning Live show, and asked “Is multiculturalism working?” Just 5 percent said “Yes”; 95 percent said “No”.

Our bubbled mainstream media got a serious crash-course in reality this week with the revelations that Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio don’t hate gays, and that Bruce Jenner, who is in the process of transitioning into a woman, remains a Christian Republican.

During a two-hour interview Friday night, Jenner said to a noticeably puzzled Diane Sawyer, “I’ve always been more on the conservative side.” Still in shock, Sawyer then asked if he’s a Republican. Jenner responded in the affirmative, ”Yeah. Is that a bad thing? I believe in the Constitution.” Jenner also said he was a Christian and not a Barack Obama fan.

The left-wing Huffington Post is even more confused than Ms. Sawyer. The Daily Caller’s Betsy Rothstein notes that HuffPo has saturated its site in overnight Jenner coverage without once managing to reveal his identity as a Christian Republican.

Newflash: Jenner didn’t get a brain transplant.

Here’s more of that fabled transparency from the Obama administration…

The Obama administration is fighting to keep secret hundreds of pages of emails detailing White House involvement in the 2010 firing and attempted rehiring of Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod after the late conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart published a blog post and video clips suggesting Sherrod was a racist.

Lawyers for Breitbart’s business partner, Larry O'Connor, filed the White House and USDA documents in federal court in Washington in May in connection with a libel suit Sherrod filed over the blog post, which appeared on Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com website. However, last week, Justice Department lawyers urged U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon to keep the documents from the public by maintaing them under seal.

Court filings are normally public, but the Justice Department said the emails from the accounts of nine White House staffers and an additional number of Agriculture Department officials should be kept under wraps in part because the public already has enough information through official statements about Sherrod’s forced resignation and the ensuing events.

The notion that [‘Clinton Cash’ author Peter] Schweizer is an independent journalist investigating corruption is a farce. His resume, according to the right-wing watchdog group, Media Matters for America, includes: working as a speech writer for George W. Bush’s White House in the last year of his presidency: being paid $106,250 from Sarah Palin’s PAC in 2011 and 2012 to advise her on foreign policy; ghost-writing Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s 2010 autobiography; contributing to Glenn Beck’s 2010 book Broke; working as an editor for Breitbart, which is a major Republican-boosting operation, and for the ultra-conservative Hoover Institute at Stanford University; and speaking regularly to conservatives, including the Charles Koch Institute, the 2012 National Conservative Student Conference, and others.  [….]

Schweizer’s book, Clinton Cash, will be published on Tuesday by HarperCollins. The publishers’ description on Amazon.com says it is “meticulously researched and scrupulously sourced, filled with headline-making revelations, Clinton Cash raises serious questions of judgment, of possible indebtedness to an array of foreign interests, and ultimately, of fitness for high public office.”

What that description does not say, as Media Matters notes, is “HarperCollins is owned by NewsCorp, which is headed by Rupert Murdoch and the sister company of Fox News parent 21st Century Fox.” In other words, this is yet another example of the right-wing echo chamber, where GOP propagandists are featured on partisan programs where Democrats are smeared and Republicans lauded—or more political cronyism.
