(Photo of Tito Jackson during the test launch of his boat The Boaty Friedan)

Are you dying to hear me talk about the events that led to a commercial fisherman building a mini version of his boat for my dog Tito that I named the Boaty Friedan? Maybe you just want to see some of my photography in person. I gotchu boo. My work is on display at Photoville, a big photo event going on at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5 September 18-28 (click here for hours). Come through to check out popup galleries by artists, publications and the like. It’s free, theres food, beer, fancy lemonade, etc.  Its kid/ dog/ wheelchair/ wifi friendly so pile everything on your rascal scooter and let that freak flag fly, babe.

1) SEE: My work is up in the Narratively container. We are located between the Smorgasburg beer garden and the two story giant Instagram container with two American flag tailgate chairs out front. The container contains (YES) some of our favorite photos from the last two years at Narratively, but features a photo essay I put together last year called The Last Fishermen of Long Island.  My photos are hanging alongside the those of Doug Kuntz, who photographed the Bonac fisher scene 30 years ago and was part of Peter Matthiessen’s 1986 book Men’s Lives

2) HEAR: Over the two weekends we at Narratively are responsible for the nightly entertainment in the beer garden! Narratively After Dark will bring you live storytelling, short films and artist talks starting at 7:30 every night and is also free. I will be doing a talk with my buddy Mr. Kuntz Thursday 9/25. We will discuss how we each found our way to the baymen of East Hampton and shit like that. Come grab food from one of the vendors and a drink and watch our work projected on a shipping container with the NYC skyline in the background. Totally not the worst thing I’ve invited you to so lets take a moment to appreciate how far we have come. Beautiful, really.

Click HERE to read and see a story I just published on Narratively about (a)Bonac, the ongoing project I started a few years ago documenting what it means to be from a little town called East Hampton.
