Sydney Arts Podcasts w/ @bdvz and Peter Nelson

"FEED ME"- you.

Fear not, your insatiable thirst for more alternative arts interviews will be quenched once more on this rainy public holiday. When I hosted Arts Monday 6th on Eastside 89.7FM, I met up with two exciting local artists whose works explore the form of our contemporary urban landscapes in very different ways: Peter Nelson (Extensions of a No-Place) and Benjamin Vozzo (@bdvz and #intheдуьне),

Peter Nelson

The first podcast is an interview with Peter Nelson, artist, sculptor and last year’s winner of the Art & Australia Contemporary Art Award. Peter Nelson is well known for his illuminated perspex sculptures and elaborate architectural sketches. His latest work 'Extensions of a No-Place' uses sculpture in conjunction with projections and drawings to encourage the imagination, hinting at futuristic utopias and urban landscape, and drawing influence from chinese literati landscape paintings and real-time strategy computer games.

The work is a fascinating look at the aesthetics of infinity and honeycomb living. Extensions of a No-Place is currently showing at Flinders St Gallery, Darlinghurst until the 16th June, 2012.

Benjamin Vozzo

#intheдуьне by Benjamin Vozzo, 2012

Benjamin Vozzo is a new media artist who uses photography, video and graphic interchange formats (gifs) to explore shape, landscape, form and place. His current work #intheдуьне takes a ‘hybrid-world’ perspective of community housing in Redfern, drawing on Arabic, Chechen and Russian cultures to elucidate or re-present these iconic Sydney structures. Benjamin Vozzo’s work looks at the world, dysopia and diasporas, through contemporary media, using phone cameras, gifs, image editing, sound, video and image sharing websites.

#intheдуьне opens Thursday 14th June at 35 Foster St Surry Hills, and will be open until 18th. Get a taste of it on tumblr or follow @bdvz on twitter or instagram.
