Sometimes, we do parenting right (or an explanation of hyphenated surnames)
In the car tonight. Aub was talking about a school mate whose last name is hyphenated (like Keys-Johnson, or whatever) and she suddenly stopped and asked why some people have two last names.
I began explaining how sometimes girls keep their maiden names when they get married (also had to explain what a maiden name was) and connect them to their married names. We also explained that sometimes the girl just keeps her name and in some cases, it’s even possible for the man to change his name.
She asked “What happens when two girls get married?” And we told her it could be any of the same combinations and same with when two boys get married. We used our friends as an example that neither of them changed their last names.
Just like that. What happens with the names when two girls get married? No big deal.
