Weed Priest + Astralnaut Single Split

By BillyGoat

Yesterday Eggnogg dropped a split single with Borracho and today we have another new split single, this time from across the pond, and it is another doom-stoner-sludge gem. Ireland’s Weed Priest and Astralnaut have a rep for heaviness that has become synonymous with their name, so I knew going in that this was going to be a great listen.

I was a big fan of ‘Worship’ (2014) by Galway’s Weed Priest. It’s the vocals in the single “Graveyard” that make it a clear stand-out, given a sound that is firmly ensconced in the Electric Wizard tradition (and one we love to hear endless variations upon here at Doomed & Stoned).

Astralnaut has a grittier vocal style, more reminiscent of the southern-stoner metal tradition and no less effective. Last year’s ‘Thieves, Beggars and Swine’ (2014) was an excellent record and the new single “Parasitic” has an absolutely winning riff-chorus combo that makes this also worthy of adding to your playlist (guaranteed: you’ll be singing along by the end).

Cheers to both bands on a fantastic release, available digitally and as a four-panel CD digipack.
