Laura Marling - The Wrote and the Writ (Johnny Flynn cover)

Just a short, simple, acoustic song today. Laura Marling was the first artist whom I listened to and got completely mesmerised by her lyrics - they are essentially poetry to music.

This is ripped from a video of her and her guitar live in a room alone. The lyrics just…uhh. And she gets so much better than this!

The Beatles - Blackbird

Over the past few weeks I’ve been exploring the Beatles a lot, ashamed at how little of their material I was aware of. Though I have many ‘favourites’ from what I have listened to, there’s something about this simple wee song that I absolutely adore. I don’t know if it’s the historical context of the lyrics, the over-lapping of the acoustic guitar, the perfect harmonies of the vocals at the end of the chorus, the kick afterwards or simply that it slightly resembles the work of Cat Stevens, of whom I’m a massive fan.

Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald - Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off

I went out for dinner tonight with my parents to celebrate my birthday. I drove them, and usually in my car they don’t appreciate my iPod music, but I thought some Louis would go down well, and it did. My dad sang this all the way there.
