“One of the most horrifying things about war is how it leaves children fatherless and motherless.” The most powerful way she could dramatize that idea, she says, was to kill a set of parents that were dear to readers. “I had no intention of killing [Lupin],” says Rowling. “But then it dawned on me he had to die.”

1. My body is a cemetery
of all the things I never
had the courage to do.

2. My mouth, a graveyard.
Buried six feet under
are all the words that died
on my tongue before
I could say them.

3. These days, my feet
only know how to go backwards.
My arms are
feeling nostalgic
so I’m taking a trip
down memory lane,
I’m visiting all the ghosts
I have left behind. But
they have nothing new to say.
They’re still haunting
the same stories.

Gem parent feeeeels

I’m headcanoning Garnet’s inability to say no to Steven in everyday life.

Acid-hawking monsters are the least of it.

Steven’s upset about the sad state of whales held in captivity?

Two weeks later the Gems are breaking into marine parks and hefting whales out of their tanks and dumping them back in the oceans (after magic-ing racial memories of hunting/migrating/etc into their heads so they’ll survive the longterm). OR NO WAIT Amethyst transforms into a whale and teaches the captives how to hunt/survive in the wild yesgood.

Steven fretting over the fact that honeybees are dying off?

Garnet not only personally reasons with/menaces politicians into doing something, but she gets down into the dirt with Steven and helps him plant bee-friendly gardens all over Beach City.

Steven becomes obsessed with dinosaurs?

Garnet opens a portal in the space-time continuum into the Jurassic era and takes him to see some extinct megafauna. And she totally punches out an Allosaurus bc she’s Garnet.

Pearl is frustrated because she has to be the voice of reason, but she gives in because she’s not much stronger than Garnet when Steven pulls the Sad Face and plus at least all this stuff is educational.

Amethyst rolls with all of it and keeps Steven safe and takes pictures so they all have memories of stealing killer whales or something.
