There’s a funny disconnect between the things I find appealing to draw and what I dig in real life. On the page, I love laying down lines that turn into stovepipe legs, gaunt faces and half burnt cigarettes. In reality to these same people I’d probably say, ‘Nice jacket,’ and think ‘Hit the gym and lay off the heroin.’
After a long time of exclusivly painting from imagination i decided to get back into studies. I used to not be happy with my studies at all because I never had the feeling that I learned much. After many discussions with my buddies and a lot of thinking about the process of learning, I hopefully will be able to get more out of those studies now.
This time I tried to focus mostly on form, volume and edges. I exegerated a lot of things, pushing values, form and colour and tilted the head a little to not get into the mindlessly-copying-what-you-see-mode.
