Apologies for the lateness, but as promised, here are subtitles for the Ken and Koromaru trailer that just came out for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. As I mentioned before, their fighter title was interesting to translate and while some slight tweaks had to be made once the announcer actually vocalized it, I’m pretty happy with the final results. But that’s neither here nor there. What matters is that they managed to sneak in a small animal into a fighting game and not necessarily make it a collision nightmare! Rejoice!

My subtitles for the Golden Arena mode trailer will come sometime later tonight. My sleep schedule has been… wacky this week, so there may be some napping involved before I get that to you all. But get it to you all I will, one way or another!

See you soon!

You know, after seeing that this week’s Persona Stalker Club was titled 「キャベツ畑でつかまえて」 (“Catcher in the Cabbage”), I’ve kind of taken a liking to subtitling Adachi here like good ol’ Holden Caulfield here and there. Both are hypocritical, both hate the world and feel they’ve got it all figured out, and both are jealous that their older brothers are working in Hollywood as script writers.

Or something like that.

Catch you on the flip side of this guy’s parole,

Miss President (Japanese: 君は生徒会長, Kimi wa Seitokaichou) is a 12 page short story by Hayase Reku that focuses on Labrys. Originally published in a licensed manga compilation based on Persona 4 Arena with stories by multiple artists, Miss President is a short retelling of Yu Narukami and Labrys’ first meeting inside the TV and the mischief that latter gets up to when she finds a love letter stashed inside one of the student shoe lockers. It’s a cute take on a cute character with some good humor and makes for a fun few minutes to read from start to finish!

Another week, another teensy character trailer for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, this time revolving around newbie badguy and questionable character portrait Sho. As it turns out, the main qualification for being the most despicable person in this game is to just have puns worse than Teddie’s, of which there are plenty from this guy! I can only hope I mildly did some justice to those puns because my god do they get morbidly elaborate in places.

「皆を死体にしたい」 indeed!

See you all next week, I suppose!

I wasn’t originally going to do the subtitles for this new Yukari character trailer for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax as quickly as usual because translating soon after a night of alcoholic shenanigans isn’t generally what I’d call the best idea, but then I realized I’d probably mistranslate “Feather” as “Phaser” or something if I didn’t work on it right as I was cognizant of those semantics, so here we are! I’m pretty sure I was sober when I wrote this, so hopefully that’s reflected in my writing! I liked writing these subtitles simply because it’s the first time we’ve had any substantial voice acting in Persona related to Phoenix Featherman Ranger R and I find that just dandy.

All the usual disclaimers about the potential lack of context in places and not to read too hard between lines and blah blah blah. At least this time background noise wasn’t muffling any of the dialog unlike in Rise’s trailer, so on a technical level at least we should all be good. Good job, video and/or sound editor! You did great this time!

Until next time, Tumblr!

[Edit: Haha, joke’s on me! A “Phaser” actually slipped through. Make sure you have annotations turned on to see the corrected line! My bad~]

Ta-da! My subtitles for the newly released trailer showcasing Rise as a fighter in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax! Words cannot describe how happy I am to be subtitling something other than a Persona Q trailer for once. Don’t get me wrong, that game looks all sorts of neat and fun. I just thought those character trailers were never going to end. Say what you will about Rise’s rising prominence, but I, for one, appreciate a good change of pace now and again, especially when said pace entails a pretty fun video to subtitle.

As always, the usual disclaimer: I don’t work for Atlus, so some lines could very well change in terms of context and semantics in the final localized version. I know about as much as you do as to when Rise is saying a lot of these lines, which is to say, not at all, so don’t read too in-between the lines too heavily. One line in particular was a bit troublesome to decipher because of background noise; I’m 95 percent confident I got it right, but you know, things happen. As always, I’ll update the subs if necessary via annotations.

No idea when we’ll see each other next time, but it’s been fun, Tumblr!
