Young Dancer Of The Year Award 2011
Applications for Young Dancer Of The Year Award 2011 now open
16th September 2011
Reckon you can move your body like Nicole Scherzinger or fancy yourself as the next Derek Hough? Up and coming dancers now have the chance to prove their ability by applying for the Young Dancer Of The Year Award 2011, sponsored by Spotlight.
After last year’s fantastically high standard of competition, we’re once again looking for dance students aged between 16 and 22 to show they’ve got what it takes to perform their best moves in front of the judging panel, and thousands of spectators.
The winner of the award takes home a year’s free membership to Spotlight, including a free showreel, and a one year contract at top dance agency Dancers Inc., who are supporting the award.
In addition, the student who dances away with the prize will also get an exclusive contact to appear within the Clothes Shows Live’s Fashion Theatre for the duration of 2012, free tickets to the Clothes Show Live 2012 and a Spotlight goody bag.
Applications for the competition close on Friday, 21st October – performers will need to be nominated by their school or college teacher, or apply through Kelly Taylor at Spotlight.
Judges will be keeping their eye out for dancers with great fitness levels and an excellent facility for all aspects of dance, including core strength, balance and flexibility.
They’ll also be looking for somebody who is both a confident solo performer and has great partnering / pas de deux skills, and has a great attitude to work with directors, choreographers and fellow dancers.
Regional heats will be held in London and Birmingham in November before the field is whittled down to 30 semi-finalists to perform live at The Dance Show.
This is the second year Spotlight has sponsored The Dance Show competition, which takes place on Saturday, 3rd December.
The Dance Show runs alongside the Clothes Show Live at Birmingham’s NEC from 2nd – 7th December, and promises to be the most exciting and interactive dance show in the UK, featuring live performances, dance classes, a freestyle stage, a mock West End show bootcamp and the chance to meet with casting agents, dance schools and specialists.
Last year’s winner, Kieran Ashley Brown from the Cambridge Performing Arts College, wowed the judges, including Arlene Phillips and a panel of industry experts, such as Spotlight’s Pippa Harrison.
Kieran has since appeared in West Side Story at the Cork Opera House, as well as appearing in Jessie J’s Domino video and is covering Astro Boy in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s new contemporary piece Tezuka in Belgium.
Kieran will be appearing in this year’s Clothes Show Live Suzuki Fashion Theatre, as well as the Wella Trend Vision Awards with the Icon Dance Company in New York.
So if you think you can wow the judges with your creative side and strong choreographic ability - no matter what your dance style - and have that all important star quality, make sure you don’t miss out on this fantastic chance to launch your career.
