Hitchcock | Eric Rohmer and Claude Chabrol | 1957

First French Edition, Very Good plus in photo illustrated wrappers (softcover). Lightly rubbed at the edges with a single vertical crease at the spine panel. True first edition, preceding the American by nearly 20 years. Rohmer and Chabrol’s classic study of Hitchcock’s early-to-mid career films, one of the most important books on cinema printed in the twentieth century. A wonderful section of high-resolution stills from the Hitchcock films discussed ends the book, the last being the famous photo of Hitchcock crossing at the top of a steep stone stairway, from “I Confess.”
