27 question ranked sorting for acciopuppies
Hi there! I’d like a ranked sorting of all 27 questions. I poked around, and I didn’t really see any rules about formatting this, so I’m hoping it’s alright. :) I’ve taken the test out of curiosity around 10 times, and I’ve gotten mostly Hufflepuff sorts, with a few Gryffindor sorts and a lone Ravenclaw sort. No Slytherin! Would love to see your analysis. <3 Thanks!
Which of the following would you most hate people to call you?
Ignorant > Cowardly > Ordinary > Selfish
Claw > Gryff > SLyth > Puff
After you have died, what would you most like people to do when they hear your name?
Miss you, but smile > Think with admiration of your achievements > Ask for more stories about your adventures > I don’t care what people think of me after I’m dead; it’s what they think of me while I’m alive that counts
Puff > Claw > Gryff > Slyth
Given the choice, would you rather invent a potion that would guarantee you:
Wisdom > Glory > Love > Power
Claw > Gryff > Puff > Slyth
How would you like to be known to history?
The Good > The Bold > The Great > The Wise
Puff > Gryff > Slyth > Claw
2 Puff, 2 Claw overall on Q1
You enter an enchanted garden. What would you be most curious to examine first?
The bubbling pool, in the depths of which something luminous is swirling > The silver leafed tree bearing golden apples > The fat red toadstools that appear to be talking to each other > The statue of an old wizard with a strangely twinkling eye
Slyth > Claw > Puff > Gryff
What kind of instrument most pleases your ear?
The piano > The violin > The drum > The trumpet
Claw > Slyth > Gryff > Puff; this is identical to overall popularity rankings on this question
Four boxes are placed before you. Which would you try and open
The small pewter box, unassuming and plain, with a scratched message upon it that reads ‘I open only for the worthy.’ > The ornate golden casket, standing on clawed feet, whose inscription warns that both secret knowledge and unbearable temptation lie within. > The gleaming jet black box with a silver lock and key, marked with a mysterious rune that you know to be the mark of Merlin. > The small tortoiseshell box, embellished with gold, inside which some small creature seems to be squeaking.
Gryff > Claw > Slyth > Puff
Four goblets are placed before you. Which would you choose to drink?
The smooth, thick, richly purple drink that gives off a delicious smell of chocolate and plums. > The foaming, frothing, silvery liquid that sparkles as though containing ground diamonds. > The golden liquid so bright that it hurts the eye, and which makes sunspots dance all around the room. > The mysterious black liquid that gleams like ink, and gives off fumes that make you see strange visions.
Puff > Claw > Gryff > Slyth
Once every century, the Flutterby bush produces flowers that adapt their scent to attract the unwary. If it lured you, it would smell of:
The sea > A crackling log fire > Home > Fresh parchment
Slyth > Gryff > Puff > Claw
2 Slyth, 1 Gryff, 1 Puff, 1 Claw
A troll has gone berserk in the Headmaster’s study at Hogwarts. It is about to smash, crush and tear several irreplaceable items and treasures, including a cure for dragon pox, which the Headmaster has nearly perfected; student records going back 1000 years and a mysterious handwritten book full of strange runes, believed to have belonged to Merlin. In which order would you rescue these objects from the troll’s club, if you could?
Dragon Pox Cure > Merlin’s Book >Student Records
Gryff primary/Claw secondary, but this is a problematic question - this answer combination is the #1 answer for every single House, taking 75% of Gryffs, 50% of Claws, 37% of Slyths, and 31% of Puff answers overall. It’s too popular and not really indicative of your House placement.
Which would you rather be:
Trusted? > Liked? > Praised? > Envied? > Imitated? > Feared?
AND THIS IS EVEN WORSE. Ravenclaw lacks a good answer (they rank trusted, praised, and liked above imitated within the House, and are actually least-likely of the four Houses to answer imitated - only about 8% of Claws pick it vs. 20% of Puffs) and trusted currently takes over 40% of the total vote (and would easily take 50% if I had more Puff surveys.) At the moment, trusted + praised = about 66% of Sortings, trusted + praised + liked takes over 75%. This leaves Ravenclaw without a good answer, disadvantages Slytherin somewhat, and really puts Gryff (trusted/praised) at an advantage, with Puff also getting a bit of a boost.
Huffledor > Puff > Gryff primary/Slyth secondary > Slyth > Claw > Slyth
Which of the following do you find most difficult to deal with?
Being ignored > Loneliness > Cold > Hunger > Boredom
The fairest of the Q3s.
Claw/Slyth > Huffledor > Slytherpuff > Huffleclaw > Gryffinslyth
So the fairest Q3 puts you as Ravenslyth; the other two are Huffledor and Gryffinclaw, but are less reliable (trusted especially.)
What are you most looking forward to learning at Hogwarts?
Apparition and Disapparition (being able to materialise and dematerialise at will) > Secrets about the castle > Flying on a broomstick > Transfiguration (turning one object into another object) > All about magical creatures, and how to befriend/care for them > Every area of magic I can > Hexes and jinxes
Slytherdor > Huffledor > Ravenclaw > Puff > Ravenslyth > Slyth
If you could have any power, which would you choose?
The power of invisibility > The power to speak to animals > The power to change your appearance at will > The power of superhuman strength > The power to change the past > The power to read minds
Gryff > Huffleclaw > Slytherclaw > Puff > Slytherdor > Ravenslyth
Which of the following would you most like to study?
Ghosts > Centaurs > Werewolves > Merpeople > Goblins > Vampires > Trolls
And again, this is a problem with question bias. You almost have the answer ranked in order of overall popularity: switch centaurs and werewolves (and goblins/vampires) and you’d have it exactly. The problem? Ghosts, werewolves, and centaurs all have Gryffindor weight, with ghosts getting the most Gryff weight and being the most popular answer. This means this question naturally leans Gryff, and away from Slytherin, the only House without a creature in the top 3 and the House with 2/3 of the bottom creatures. (Hufflepuff has the same problem - and trolls is the second-least-popular answer on the entire quiz after records>book>cure - but werewolves helps them in a way merpeople doesn’t quite help Slytherin.)
Gryffinclaw > Ravendor > Huffledor > Slyth > Slytherclaw > Slytherpuff > Puff
So Q4 puts you definitely towards Gryffindor, but there is some bias going on.
One of your house mates has cheated in a Hogwarts exam by using a Self-Spelling Quill. Now he has come top of the class in Charms, beating you into second place. Professor Flitwick is suspicious of what happened. He draws you to one side after his lesson and asks you whether or not your classmate used a forbidden quill. What do you do?
Tell Professor Flitwick that he ought to ask your classmate (and resolve to tell your classmate that if he doesn’t tell the truth, you will). > Tell Professor Flitwick the truth. If your classmate is prepared to win by cheating, he deserves to be found out. Also, as you are both in the same house, any points he loses will be regained by you, for coming first in his place. > Lie and say you don’t know (but hope that somebody else tells Professor Flitwick the truth). > You would not wait to be asked to tell Professor Flitwick the truth. If you knew that somebody was using a forbidden quill, you would tell the teacher before the exam started.
Gryff > Claw > Puff > Slyth (also, Q5 should be called “nobody ever picks Slytherin Q5s except sometimes the troll one”)
You and two friends need to cross a bridge guarded by a river troll who insists on fighting one of you before he will let all of you pass. Do you:
Attempt to confuse the troll into letting all three of you pass without fighting? > Suggest that all three of you should fight (without telling the troll)? > Suggest drawing lots to decide which of you will fight? > Volunteer to fight?
Claw > Slyth > Puff > Gryff
Which road tempts you most?
The twisting, leaf-strewn path through woods > The wide, sunny, grassy lane > The cobbled street lined with ancient buildings > The narrow, dark, lantern-lit alley
Gryff > Puff > Claw > SLyth
Which nightmare would frighten you most?
Standing on top of something very high and realizing suddenly that there are no hand- or footholds, nor any barrier to stop you falling > Waking up to find that neither your friends nor your family have any idea who you are. > An eye at the keyhole of the dark, windowless room in which you are locked > Being forced to speak in such a silly voice that hardly anyone can understand you, and everyone laughs at you
Claw > Puff > Gryff > Slyth (although in practice the Slytherins are more likely to pick the Ravenclaw nightmare than the Claws, who prefer the Gryff nightmare)
Late at night, walking alone down the street, you hear a peculiar cry that you believe to have a magical source. Do you:
Proceed with caution, keeping one hand on your concealed wand and an eye out for any disturbance? > Draw your wand and stand your ground? > Withdraw into the shadows to await developments, while mentally reviewing the most appropriate defensive and offensive spells, should trouble occur? > Draw your wand and try to discover the source of the noise?
Puff > Slyth > Claw > Gryff; you’ve ranked the Slyth one unusually high
A Muggle confronts you and says that they are sure you are a witch or wizard. Do you:
Ask what makes them think so? > Agree, and walk away, leaving them to wonder whether you are bluffing? > Tell them that you are worried about their mental health, and offer to call a doctor. > Agree, and ask whether they’d like a free sample of a jinx?
Claw > Gryff > Puff > Slyth
So 3 Claw, 2 Gryff, 1 Puff
Dawn or dusk?
Dawn > Dusk
Ravendor > Slytherpuff
Moon or stars?
Stars > Moon
Huffledor > Slytherclaw, although in practice problematic: 77% of Claws pick stars vs. 71% of Puffs and 51% of Gryffs
Forest or river?
Forest > River
Gryffinclaw > Slytherpuff
So definitely Gryffindor Q6.
Black or white?
Black > White
Slytherdor > Huffleclaw
Heads or tails?
Heads > Tails
Ravenpuff > Gryffinslyth
Left or right?
Right > Left
Gryffinpuff > Ravenslyth
And again a Gryffinpuff indication on Q7.
So I’m actually surprised by the majority of Hufflepuff Sortings -
Q1 is a 50/50 Huffleclaw split
Q2 is 2 Slytherin with 1 for each other House
Q3 is highly dependent on what you get (trusted leans Hufflepuff but neither of the others do.) The fairest Q3 puts you Ravenslyth.
Q4 goes Gryffindor, but secondarily either Slytherin or Ravenclaw, not Puff.
Q5 is 3 Claw/2 Gryff/1 Puff
Q6 is Gryff overall
Q7 is Gryffinpuff overall
And Q3/4 count more overall. So I would actually have called you more Gryff 1/Claw 2/Puff 3/Slyth 4, but with a note to keep in mind that this quiz is biased overall pro-Gryff/anti-Slyth. The lots of Puff sortings surprise me (trusted + not black has to be involved in a lot of them) and it’s definitely possible for you to get Slytherin, albeit difficult - you need a Slytherin Q2/being ignored/apparition/black, combined with not getting too many Gryffindor options. Interesting and just goes to show that question selection can matter a lot.
