26 students at eight schools included on list
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named its 2014 semifinalists. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is represented by 26 students at eight high schools.
The semifinalists are:

North Mecklenburg – Anika Agarwal
Providence – Annie P. Ball, Kate R. Brown, Connor J. Hall, Emma G. Hankins, Erica R. Hennes, Rachel J. Pomerantz, Jack P. Vincent, Jada C. Walters
South Mecklenburg – Justin M. Giles, Audrey E. Hommes
These CMS students join approximately 16,000 others from across the country vying for approximately 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $33-million. They became eligible for semifinalist status by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) as juniors and being among the highest-scoring students in the state.
To become a finalist, the semifinalists must submit a detailed scholarship application from their school and themselves. Finalists will be announced in Feb. 2014 and the winners announced in spring.
In 2014, CMS had nine National Merit Scholarship winners.
