21 November – StuffCentral talks all things Samsung, including VR

Another week, another round of StuffCentral to look forward to. We still haven’t found Toby (he surfaced briefly before jetting off again like some sort of airline-powered superhero) so Liron Segev is standing in again this week. Liron has been joined by Clare Matthes to talk to a bunch of folks about technology.

Justin Hume, Head of Product Marking for Samsung SA, is one of those folks and the conversation revolves around Samsung’s upcoming kit. Kit like the Gear S wearable, the Galaxy Note 4 (check out the Stuff review here) and the Gear VR headset which makes friends with the Note 4.

Then there’s some exploration of the app world with a mobile salon, with Liron and Clare speaking to a representative from 360 Mobile Salon about the work they’re doing that side.

As usual, yesterday’s show is available for download or streaming. The file is a mere 16MB or so, so bandwidth probably isn’t going to be a problem. If only all internet-related things in SA were so simple.

Google Adds Chromecast Screen Mirroring Support For Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Shortly after the release of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, owners were dismayed to learn their new phone was unable to mirror its screen to a Chromecast. No other Google Cast apps were affected, but plenty of people still wanted screen casting. Well, it took about a month, but this oversight has finally been remedied. The Note 4 has been officially added to Google’s list of devices with support for screen casting.

[REVIEWED] Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Time to take note of Samsung again

Oh how we laughed when the first Galaxy Note crossed our desks all those years ago. Who in blazes would want a supersized smartphone, we chuckled. When we’re wrong, we’re happy to ‘fess up to it. Now that those holdouts in Cupertino have given in and admitted phablets aren’t a fad, everyone and their horse is making giant handsets and the world is better for it.

So where does that leave Samsung…

Holiday Gift Guide 2014-2015: Top 10 T-Mobile USA Smartphones

T-Mobile USA is in the middle of a very drastic turn around. Just a year ago, they were losing customers left and right, and now it’s just the opposite. With more and more people signing up with the magenta carrier, let’s take a look at 10 of their best phones this holiday season.

HTC One M8

The HTC One M8 has been out for a few months now, but it’s still one of the favorites on T-Mobile’s network. With it’s aluminum unibody, as well as 5-inch 1080p SuperLCD display, and a Snapdragon 801 processor, it’s definitely a great choice.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is another one that’s a big deal and super popular, not just on T-Mobile but also on other networks. The Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display, Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM. It’s a beast.

Samsung Galaxy S5

While the Galaxy S5 was an early 2014 favorite, it’s still a great choice for those that don’t want a larger smartphone like the Galaxy Note 4. It features a 5.1-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 and 2GB of RAM. It’s also available in both black and white from T-Mobile.

Samsung Galaxy Avant

The Galaxy Avant is more of a low end smartphone from T-Mobile, but it’s still a pretty decent one. We reviewed it not too long ago and found that it’s not completely terrible. But it’s also important to remember that this is a $250 phone, so it’s not going to be super amazing either.

LG G3

The LG G3 was one of my favorites this year. It’s a pretty spectacular device, with a 2560×1440 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM. It’s display is really nice, although it may not appeal to the AMOLED fans out there since it is an IPS panel.

Sony Xperia Z3

It’s definitely nice to see Sony at least trying here in the US, and with the Xperia Z3, we’ve got a great phone on T-Mobile. The Xperia Z3 has a 5.2-inch 1080p Display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a spectacular 20.7MP camera on the back.

ZTE ZMAX

The ZTE ZMAX is easily one of my favorite mid-range/$250 smartphones out there. It’s got a nice big screen, but also battery life that will last for days. For those that are fans of stock Android, you’ll love this smartphone from ZTE.

LG Optimus F3Q

For those still clamoring for a smartphone with a full physical QWERTY keyboard, then your choices are slim, and the LG Optimus F3Q is really you’re only choice. It’s not a completely terrible phone either. It’s just a bit small compared to others on the market.

Google Nexus 6

This is the one that everyone wants, right? Well the Nexus 6 is going to be available at T-Mobile as well as Google Play. It has a 5.96-inch Quad HD AMOLED Display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
