She really just loves my mother which is so sweet,I’m a huge fan of hers, I have young girls and we had been to a few of her concerts. I met with her at one of them and she had read a ton of books about our family. She was inspired and wrote a song.
—  Rory Kennedy talks about Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift Dines with the Kennedys at Sundance

Taylor Swift attended the Sundance Film Festival for the first time last night (Jan. 20). Swift was in town to check out ‘Ethel,’ the film based on Ethel Kennedy. She hit the red carpet and dished on dining with her new, somewhat unlikely bestie.

Swift revealed that she met Ethel through her daughter, Rory, who directed the film. “I had read up on Robert F. Kennedy and his wife, and I asked Rory if it would ever be possible for me to meet her mother,” Swift told the Boston Globe. “She said, ‘Here’s her number.’ Ethel was kind enough to have lunch and spend a few hours talking with me, and ever since then I’ve been so inspired by how full of life she is and the way she tells her story.’’

In December, Swift told Vogue that the only time she’d ever been starstruck was when she met Ethel. “I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago,” Swift said. “She is one of my favorites, because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody.”

Swift’s friendship with Ethel sent reporters into a frenzy. “Swift entered the staging area, and the place went nuts,” one reporter blogged. “Turns out that the pop star and Ethel Kennedy are BFFs — seriously, they sat together at the screening and giggled like schoolgirls.” Okay, how cute is that visual? It sounds like everything Swift read about Ethel is still true!

‘Ethel’ premieres on HBO later this year, but Swift gave her own review of it already, tweeting, “Went to Sundance to see Rory Kennedy’s documentary about her mother, @Ethel_Movie. It was moving, hilarious, and beautiful.”

Taylor Swift was spotted hanging out with Rory Kennedy at the Sundance Film Festival this week, and for good reason. Not only are the two personal friends, Swift has also written a song about Kennedy’s iconic family. Yes, the Kennedys of Camelot. Rory is the granddaughter of Senator Robert Kennedy, the brother of President John F. Kennedy. Find out how the two became friends and the song, below.

Rory Kennedy is the mother of two girls and they’ve been to several of Swift’s concerts. At one concert the Kennedys were able to meet the singer, who expressed her interest and admiration for the family. Swift told Kennedy that she had read a lot of books about the family and was so impressed that she wrote a song. Swift attended the premiere of Rory Kennedy’s film about her mother, “Ethel” on Sunday at Sundance. (x)

Surrogate Father.

It’s been well documented that Ted served as somewhat of a surrogate father to the children of his fallen brothers and in 1968, six months after brother Bobby was assassinated, Ethel gave birth to a new baby girl, Rory Elizabeth Katherine Kennedy. Ted was there for his sister-in-law during the birth as well as the baptism of the baby. Ted Kennedy joked after the birth:

"I told Ethel, that I think Joan and I are going to take this baby home, we think Ethel has enough of them at home!"

"You could see their eyes…desperate eyes."

Last Days in Vietnam, a new film from Rory Kennedy, premieres on americanexperiencepbs in spring 2015.
