@SEA_Awards :: Infinity and Beyond
In mathematics, the symbol of infinity is represented by a horizontal number eight. Infinity is continuous, never ending, similar to change, which is constant. Geographically the epicenter of music has changed, and the Southern region now stakes claim in an industry that was predominately focused on the East and/or West coasts. Understanding the region’s importance across the landscape of music, Southern Entertainment Awards & Conference (SEA) founders, Janiro Hawkins II, and Jesse “DJ Infamous” Johnson, created a “platform for talent in the South to breed and grow within the industry.”
March 3 to March 6, 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee, the Eighth Annual Southern Entertainment Awards & Music Conference was held at the Cook Convention & Cannon Center. The four day conference brought industry professionals together to network and “celebrate the culture of ‘Southern entertainment.’” The list of 2011 SEA Award winners can be found, here.
It was the first time The Queen’s Castle attended the Awards & Conference. The weekend offered informative programs designed to strengthen industry professionals, while also providing invaluable networking opportunities. SEAs are in a lane of their own, it’s not your Grammy Awards or SXSW, but definitely a formidable force in the region it serves. Although based in the South, the SEAs will continue to hold down and recognize the achievements of peers in the entertainment industry across the globe for infinity and beyond.

SEAs are leading the industry by incorporating technological enhancements, while recognizing that constant evolution and change is required for sustainability. In 2012, the SEA Awards & Conference will remain in Memphis; events will be held from Thursday, March 29 to Sunday, April 1 or Monday, April 2, if you decide to celebrate with the winners! In an open letter to stakeholders, the SEAs explained there are a few changes for the upcoming award season. A more condensed ballot will streamline categories allowing the winners to be announced on one day, but this change also gives room to increase the number of nominees from ten, to the top 20, for any specific category, more here.
Ready to give your favorite Southern entertainer a nod? Annually, nominees are accepted from May 1 to August 15, and ballot voting occurs from September 5 to January 15. Interested in attending the 9th Annual Southern Entertainment Awards & Conference? Tickets, vendor booths, showcase slots and 2012 Award & Conference packages are already available, here.
