Joss Whedon may have given Black Widow and Maria Hill decent roles in The Avengers, but the movie still failed the Bechdel Test, all while making time for crowds of male footsoldiers and sidekicks. As for Age of Ultron, some fans are already concerned that Scarlet Witch is destined to become yet another of Whedon’s troubled-but-dangerous waifs, a staple of all his creative endeavors to date.
Instead of praising Whedon for the millionth time, it may be a better idea to focus on women in the industry, such as comic book creators Kelly Sue DeConnick and Gail Simone, or the female showrunners of Marvel’s Agent Carter and A.K.A. Jessica Jones. If fans continue to hold up Joss Whedon as the voice of authority for feminism and diversity in superhero entertainment, then we’re not setting a very high standard for ourselves.
Move on, leave, run away, escape this place… but don’t forget about me, about us, about this town. Always remember where you come from so you can appreciate how far you’ve come.

Point of Interest: Is The MCU Getting Too Crowded?

So it was announced today that Hellcat is coming to the new Netflix series ‘AKA Jessica Jones’. Much like The Atom over in DC’s ‘Arrow’ I don’t really have a clue who she is because I don’t read the comics however from what I know in the comics she is part of the Defenders, which would fit her into the Netflix series as well as the Avengers. This leads me to my question, is the Marvel Cinematic Universe becoming too crowded?

IGN: What can you say about this new relationship beginning for Max and Anne Bonny?

Kennedy: It’s very complicated and it’s really tender and unpredictable as well. It’s not a relationship that I want to talk about a lot, number one, because there’s a beauty in the mystery of the audience wondering what is this relationship about. Is this authentic from the heart? I think with Max, there’s a care and affection there that she has for Bonny. She’s also constantly aware of how everyone around her can be manipulated in a way. I would say Max is a little bit afraid of getting close to this person because of what happened. Also there’s also, what if I have to go against her? What if Max has to go against Bonny? And is she prepared to do that? This season is a lot of her figuring that out. How closed do I allow myself to be because I might have to cross this person possibly? So it’s, I would say a complicated relationship.

IGN: Anything you guys can say about whether the Bonny/Max situation might end up on Eleanor’s radar at all?

New: There is so much that happens in Season 2… Because actually, quite a short amount of time goes past in Season 2.

Kennedy: Oh, it’s not very long at all. I don’t know how many days, but it’s not long.

New: It’s like a couple of weeks. So it’s not a long time for that to come on to her radar, but maybe it’ll come on to her radar in Season 3. She will probably be ape s**t.

Kennedy: I’m going to be in the middle of a girl fight.

New: There’s going to be a cat fight at some point. I don’t think Eleanor would win that one.

Kennedy: She would not, no. Only because, you might outwit the woman but just the skills with the sword are too fierce.

IGN: But if Eleanor and Bonny were in, say, a spelling bee situation…

Kennedy: That would be brilliant. But basically, Anne Bonny is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and you are the vampire.

New: The odds are… I’d definitely put some money on Bonny for that one.
