The Blur (Stanley Stewart), Supreme Power #06 (2004)

“You ever see one of those English Border Collies? Fast, strong, and smarter than any other dog on the planet. But you got to keep them busy, you got to give’em homework and projects and goals. I knew a guy had one, didn’t keep its mind occupied, and over the summer it took apart his front porch with its bare teeth, board by board.

You don’t give a dog like that something important to do, a problem to solve, it goes crazy. And the last thing the world needs is somebody like you going crazy, you know what I’m saying?”

Little PSA about those invisible items...

OK… so SQEX recently put in new armor pieces that are invisible.  So you can glamour them in to hide equipment.  And they can simply be purchased from a vendor.  Great, yea?

Well, one problem.  It looks like the vendor (Tataroga in Revenant’s Toll) will not sell you these items unless you have completed some quests by Wiscard.  And in order to do those quests, you must be a lvl 50 DoH.

Now that’s sorta a weird decision by SQEX, but whatever, I’m not super bothered.  I know enough lvl 50 crafters that it’s pretty trivial.  No, what bothers me is this…

These items are cheap.  Like under 100 gil each.

And on Hyperion at least, they are being sold on the market boards at stupid mark ups.  The gloves are 7000 gil, the bracelet, ring and earrings are all 4000 to 4500 gil.  Some pieces are at reasonable prices, but most are on the boards at 4k and up.

So, yea, heads up.  If you need these things for your glamours and can’t purchase them yourself, ask your crafter friends.

There are many weapons in this world, but only the best have what it takes to bear the Hyperion insignia. Every gun that leaves our facility has been tested by multiple independent inspectors and is guaranteed to meet our impossibly high standards. All Hyperion guns are meticulously calibrated by our technicians and certified to levels of accuracy never before seen in the industry. Whether you’re a professional marksman or simply someone who appreciates a finely-crafted piece of machinery, you can’t go wrong with a Hyperion. Financing is available to those who qualify.

Illustration based on the novel, Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. I’d love to adapt the whole book (easily in my top 5 novels), but alas, Mr. Simmons isn’t interested in graphic adaptations.
