I like the new Armani Code Ultimate. I don’t necessarily like the classic Armani Code (or any of Armani’s fragrances, for that matter) but I think the new one is pretty well done. It’s like a warmer, more oriental version of the classic. It’s very nice for Fall. Also, it seems significantly less powdery. Ihatepowdery fragrances.
I have a bone to pick with the price, though. The original Code is $59 for 1.7 oz, and $75 for 2.5 oz. Ultimate is $66 for 1.7 oz, and $84 for 2.5–way outside of the usual Armani price range (and up and above Chanel and Givenchy prices). I’m sure the justification is that it’s an “eau de toilette intense,” which is essentially nonsense. It’s no more concentrated than a regular eau de toilette. So that’s pretty douchey.
All in all, though, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the new Armani. While I think it would have been more interesting to put out an actual NEW cologne rather than just another Code flanker, I think it works. We’ll just have to wait and see how it does.
