As famous murderers go, one would be hard pressed to find a villain mentioned by more literary greats than Dr. William Palmer, poisoner.  Dickens called him “the greatest villain that ever stood in the Old Bailey.”  Now, Stephen Bates has done the old monster full justice in his new book from Overlook, The Poisoner: The Life and Crimes of Victorian England’s Most Notorious Doctor.
