Animals can be such an inspiration to move more- they seem to find so much joy intheir bodies, in being embodied. I think we can find this joy too! Really being present with an animal for 30 minutes can remind me how simple joy and finding joy can be. #30daysinmotion @thebeautyofyoga @thebeautyofyogashop

Conscious breathing is my anchor.' ~ Thรญch Nhแบฅt Hแบกnh || Today I'm watching the moments in between the breath and noticing how that brief moment of silence feels - a bit like finally finding your balance in a handstand after practicing what feels like forever. Today is {Day 23} of #30daysinmotion and I'm about to get up and do an hours Yin practice followed by a gym session at lunchtime - I think Rebounding is on the programme today! And then my evening yoga practice and my playtime! This is waaaaay more than the 30 mins we're asking you to do but practicing yoga and working out take me into my own little world which is where I need to be at times! I’m not ashamed to say that I feel a little lost at the moment. I’m not myself, but then again I’m not sure I even know who I really am. Transitions are a funny thing. It’s like riding a roller coaster in the dark; never knowing what’s around the corner or what might jump out at you. One thing I’ve always believed in that sometimes you have to lose yourself in order to find yourself. My heart says be patient; you’re a work in progress but the ego isn’t being very understanding and that’s where the conflict occurs. I’ve felt distant from yoga and didn’t even want to practice but the things we avoid are usually those that we need the most, and like my best friend just reminded me - for me yoga is way more than an exercise, it’s my way of life and without it my darkness deepens. Hey beauties {Day 20} & {Day 21} of #30daysinmotion have been really quite full on! I’ve started my mornings with Yin, done 30 mins of cardio & 30 mins core at lunchtime and Vinyasa Flow in the evenings - oh and I took a country walk for an hour with my little man last night to wear him out for bed before I went and did my yoga practice! I think I’m in workout credit for the next few days ๐Ÿ˜ So why should you move for at least 30 mins every day? Reason No 20: It reduces body fat. Good evening beauties {Day 18} & {Day 19} of #30daysinmotion for me was all about Yin and Lunar Flow. I still feel quiet within myself and so instead of a firey heat building practice I slowed it right down. This evenings practice led by the amazing @sahajayogini took me deep into backbends and as a result this is the deepest I’ve ever got in King Cobra ๐Ÿ So why move your body for at least 30 mins every day? Reason No 18: It increases muscle mass which in turn burns more calories. Reason No 19: It increases your flexibility - take my word for it! Catching up with #30daysinmotion {Day 15} {Day 16} & {Day 17} There has been a lot of yoga going on - especially with teaching the workshop yesterday, but today my workout will also be gardening in the beautiful British sunshine! So the benefits of exercise Reason No 15: It improves your skin (but if you’re in the sun like I am today then make sure you use sun block! Reason No 16: It reduces your risk of osteoporosis (Yin Yoga is great for this) Reason No 17: It reduces your risk of stroke. My stepdad had a really bad stroke 4 years ago so I know firsthand how debilitating this can be. Good morning my loves. It’s the final day of #30daysinmotion and for {Day 29} & {Day 30} I did a combination of Yin, Cardio and Vinyasa each day. Thank you to those of you who joined in even though it wasn’t a challenge in the usual sense. All we wanted to do was raise awareness of how important it is to move your body every day for a min of 30 mins and hopefully you noticed the benefits from doing so! While walks in Wilderness are so wonderful and healing, I like to also walk through urban spaces that one would usually only see from the bubble-saftey of an automobile: onramp centers of convergence, places built specifically for passage at high speeds with little lingering. This overpass is near my grandmother’s house in Pleasant Hill- very car-centered and surban town- but the way the sunset light laid over the cement reminded me of evenings spent among the tall granite megaliths in Yosemite- a good reminder that even the most seemingly “unnatural” spaces and constructions may be reflections of all that we recognize as beautiful and healing- maybe reminding us that the true source of healing we carry with us : a lens, a song stuck in our head, a thing we just need to remind ourselves of. #30daysinmotion @thebeautyofyoga @thebeautyofyogashop #urban #urbanlandscape #architecture #overpass #light

#30daysinmotion  : About two months ago I gave up my car and started biking and taking the train to where I want to go. This is a decision that took me years to finally commit to- cars are so deeply interwoven in US culture, especially in California. But I notice such a difference in the state of my mind and body: less frustration overall, more serenity in breath and mood and my musculature feels denser and more balanced. I grew up in the suburbs, and in high school having a car was such a symbol of inclusion that even if one lived a few blocks away they would drive. I think many, myself included, use cars in a very irrational perhaps even insane fashion, clogging up civillization’s arteries and lungs- much like many individuals are doing to themselves with inactivity and diet. #mindfulinmay @thebeautyofyogashop @thebeautyofyoga @green

Hello my loves! In May I’m teaming up with my beautiful sister & her hubby @placesyoucango as they travel around the world to bring you #30daysinmotion This is an initiative to get people off their butts & MOVE! The current facts on obesity are absolutely shocking. People spend so much time sitting - whether they’re working or at home in front of the TV or playing video games, eating the wrong foods & not dedicating any time at all to exercise - & this has led to levels of obesity rocketing. In the UK statistics show that a whopping 61.9% of adults & 28% of children are overweight, & the UK is the fattest country in Europe. Shame on us! Across the pond in the US its even worse with two thirds of adults & nearly 1 third of children being obese. There are 60, yes 60!, chronic diseases related to obesity including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, stroke & mental health problems & this in turn costs our health care systems billions of pounds/dollars every year. So here’s what we’re thinking - 30 minutes to move every single day is NOTHING. Show us how you move for those 30 minutes & in turn you will inspiring & motivating others to do the same. Its like the pebble in the pond - it will have a ripple effect as more & more people join in & as a result lose weight, de-stress & BE HEALTHIER!
