My apologies for this extremely long overdue post…
I was taken here for my birthday which of course was a surprise from my boyfriend. I’ve always been talking about Babbo so I can see exactly why he chose this place specifically.
We started our dinner with a small chick pea amuse bouche. Nothing special. Just chick peas in vinaigrette on top of toast.
Prosciutto San Daniele “Riserva” with black pepper “fett’unta”
The prosciutto was the thinnest sliced I have ever had and really just disappeared once you put it in your mouth. Its a good thing they filled the plate or else I would’ve thought someone ate my dish as soon as I glanced away.
Grilled Octopus with “borlotti marinati” and spicy limoncello vinaigrette
I am a huge fan of octopus and squid so naturally when I see it on the menu, without hesitation, I will order it. This by far was the most moist and well cooked octopus that I have ever had!! Not at all chewy. I was pretty hesitant in sharing. It truly was that great of a dish!
Beef Cheek Ravioli with crushed squab liver and black truffles
Don’t let the fact that it is beef cheek scare you off. It actually was a really flavor and delicious dish. Whenever I hear cheek being incorporated into a dish I always think of Hannibal Lecter saying the cheek as the most delicious part. I guess there is some truth in that lol
"Brasato Al Barolo" Braised Beef with porcini mushrooms
Tender. Exactly how you would expect braised beef to be. The broth was the perfect blend where it had flavor and didn’t increase the saltiness level of the dish where it was too much.
Duck with five lilies and fig vinaigrette
When I first saw duck on the menu I instantly assumed there would be little meat and that it would be a bit tough. Boy was I wrong! I was so upset that I didn’t order this entree for myself. I had absolutely no clue that duck could possible have this much meat to serve! The most moist, tender and succulent duck I have ever ate. Jealous isn’t even the word to describe what I felt when I realized the huge mistake I made in ordering the braised beef lol An absolute must along with the grilled octopus when you go to Babbo.
Pistachio And Chocolate Semifreddo
Pistachio and the fact they wrote my name was the perfect end to this meal! I could not have asked for more.
We opted out of the pasta tasting menu that was highly recommended to us since we wanted to experiment and try other dishes before committing to just pasta. I’m really glad we did or else I would’ve missed out on these great dishes.
Next time, pasta tasting it is!
