Twelve Signs, 66?

“My name is Rose Lalonde,” says the girl.  “We’ve…we’ve been pen pals of a sort for quite a while now.  I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you more!  I knew you had to succeed because, well, paradoxes are helpful that way, but I admit I was still worried.”  Her voice, initially hesitant, picks up speed and emotion the longer she talks, while her eyes are fixed, as though hypnotized, on Kanaya’s face.  Both girls keep taking steady steps towards each other.

“Oh my god,” whispers Karkat, “they’re going to kiss.”

The 12 Signs Classroom

Mrs. Cole’s homeroom has a total of 12 people. The 12 people are named Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

They’re the elite homeroom class and they’re the only people in the entire school who are called by their zodiac sign. They’re each specialized in a certain skill. (Kind of like Dangan Ronpa)

Aries: Super School Level Brawn

Taurus: Super School Level Model

Gemini: Super School Level Filmer

Cancer: Super School Level Bodyguard

Leo: Super School Level Musician

Virgo: Super School Level Detective

Libra: Super School Level Chef

Scorpio: Super School Level Brains

Sagittarius: Super School Level Scavenger

Capricorn: Super School Level Hacker

Aquarius: Super School Level Doctor

Pisces: Super School Level Imaginer

However, when they’re not in homeroom or 2nd period (which are the periods that they’re together in) they are mixed with the regular students. These 12 people are considered the “Prefects” and they are always looked up to. They wear different clothing and they’re stylized school uniforms.

“What are all of you studying for?” asks the librarian, looking from Kanaya with her star charts, to Aradia’s symbolic flash cards, to Sollux, who’s queuing posts on all his social media sites in case they don’t come back by tomorrow at noon, and then to Vriska, who stares brazenly back while her hand adds “Knives” to a column entitled “THINGS WE MIGHT NEED” on the study room’s whiteboard.

(There were other possibilities on this page but I’m sorry this is my favorite)

“Stories from the grandparents of locals seem to correlate on a few points,” she says, “and if you choose to believe that, then the story goes something like this: Four kids once went to this place on a…dare or some kind of supernatural mission, depending on which version you listen to.  They met with some dangerous being there—exactly what kind of dangerous being is even more unclear.  Some people say it was just a serial killer, others insist it was the devil.  You know, The Devil.”

She grins broadly at the words, causing most of the group to frown in concern.  To one side, out of her line of sight, Sollux gives her a quick smile.  Karkat looks away immediately with the distinct impression that he’s just witnessed something private.

“The Devil,” says Eridan, skepticism oozing from every syllable.

(Sollux and Aradia have a History.)

“I don’t know if you don’t show me, man.  Oh, come on, you should know encontrar, it’s a fucking cognate.  Just look it up, it’ll build character or something.”

“Okay,” says Gamzee, sounding distinctly miserable.  Karkat pauses, feeling kind of like a heel (moreso than usual, anyway), and then takes a few steps over to pat Gamzee awkwardly on one pointy shoulder.

“You’re doing fine, alright?  Jesus fuck, don’t look so down on yourself.  Here, say the word once.”

“En-cont-rar.”

“Encontrar,” Karkat repeats, this time with the correct pronunciation.

“Encontrar,” says Gamzee obediently.

*continues to work steadily on 12signs*

the group prepares to enter the devil’s golf course:

Kanaya, whose topic of choice for adventure preparation is the constellations of the zodiac, looks absently up from her astrology book to say something but instead glances at the door, where a librarian is peering at them suspiciously.  Kanaya essays a little wave.

So my mom used to play Rugby in college and she would tell me how the girls with longer hair had to hide it down their shirts, but girls with short hair didn't have to worry about their hair being grabbed (So Nep having short hair and playing Rugby makes total sense) and would also tell me how the smaller girls who played rugby used stuff they learned in it to take down guys twice their size and that's all I know. I keep picturing Nep barreling towards Equius & just knocking him flat on his back

man that’s effing awesome.  I mean in the AU they’re on the same team but she could still do that in practice!  so good~ @v@

[Doc Scratch] makes the cut quickly, sweeping the knife across his jugular and away from his body in what seems to Karkat, through his delirium, to be an overly-dramatic motion.  Even in the dim light, though, something is obviously wrong.  He doesn’t appear to be bleeding, but as his eyes start to roll back in his head what skin is visible seems to ripple.

“It’s comin’,” says Roxy quietly.

writing status

So it looks like 12signs is going to be a compact five chapters, and I’m done with the first two except for the DnD bits (I have a good source for that stuff though so it’s all good), and I’ll be able to flesh out chapter three a lot quicker once I’ve talked to my rugby person!

Spellbound is still moving at the right pace for NaNoWriMo and last night I had a big epic brainwave about how the story will actually end so that is GREAT.  It’s nice to kind of have a shape in mind.

(also, art bonus: should work on After Us and commissions tomorrow!)

(going to see big hero 6 now!!)

(First off, congrats on finishing Manicro)Now to the point. A while ago I scrolled AAAAAAAALL the way through your art tag(that was fun) I found like three or four pieces of a Humanstuck AU thing and you seemed to allude to a story behind them. Is that something you wrote/plan to write, something someone else wrote, some idea that will never get written or am I missing the fact that was never going to be anything?I don't know, your ideas were interesting and I would totally read that. Thank you!

Thank you!

Okay, the humanstuck thing is called The Twelve Signs and I’ve actually started writing it! ^u^ I also just gave it its own tag for the future.  I won’t start posting until it’s done, though, so y’all won’t see it for a while…
