This week, hundreds of care givers took to the streets, forming five pickets at five nursing homes across the state of NJ demanding fair contracts (shout out to the next generation leading the picket line). #laborlove #1199SEIU

1199SEIU and NYC DOHMH Working Together for a Healthier Workforce

The leadership of the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund, the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York (LVHH) and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) came together in support of the Healthy Hospital Food Initiative and the Tobacco-Free Hospitals Campaign.  In August 2011, the CEOs of all 1199 affiliated hospitals received a joint letter promoting the Tobacco-Free Campaign and a sister campaign focused on creating healthy food environments. 1199 has encouraged their member hospitals to join forces with the Health Department in seeking to create a healthier workforce and a healthier city.

1199SEIU members lined up to vote at North Miami Public Library.
Named after Desiline Victor, the 102 year old woman who waited in line for hours to vote for President Obama. #NeverGiveUp
