Had a very good guitar lesson. I was brave, and told the instructor as soon as we started that if he insisted on a Pink Floyd song, I would be asking for a new instructor. He thanked me for my honesty, and then we decided which children’s song to work on. I am now in the process of learning “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.” (Other choices that I had printed out in advance include The Alphabet Song, and The Song that Never Ends. We’ll get to those later.)
While I have previously learned the C and the G chords, I will be challenged with a G to C transition that I have not practiced up til now. He also showed me how the placement of my left thumb on the neck of the guitar can make some of those chords & changes easier. (That is why I’m paying for lessons instead of just learning from the internet!)
Learning a musical instrument for the first time, in my 50s, is certainly a challenge at times. I’m sure I’m slower at picking up much of this stuff than some of his younger students, but for the first time (six weeks in) I’m starting to feel things come together and thinking maybe this isn’t quite a hopeless endeavor after all.
This is Brody, the shop dog at the music store where I take lessons. I visited several shops before signing up for lessons, and told the owner where I now attend that it was Brody who made the sale!
In other news, I have enough calories left after dinner to have an ice cream sandwich!
