Extra virgin olive oil
25g porcini mushrooms
3 field mushrooms
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
200g risotto rice
500ml vegetable stock
Salt and pepper
60g Parmesan
1 glass white wineThe porcini lay dry and wrinkled, each slice twisted by thirst and the colour of parched earth. When the water finally fell, at first only in splashes, they drank what they could, but soon they were all covered with the life-giving liquid. The parched fragments recovered an earlier form, their contortions changed, by the gift of the water, into a supine mass, glistening. What had resembled a bowl of tree bark now had the rich colour of cooked meat, the purple brown of wet soil had replaced the dry plaster of Arizona earth.
”— Mushroom risotto à la John Steinbeck, and other recipes and household tips from great writers – an imaginative and impossibly humorous omnibus of literary impersonation. -

Wesley the Space Princess, a repost now that photosets exist (and are awesome).
Dear Wil Wheaton,
I was going to have you sign a small printed+stapled booklet of this at Emerald City Comicon, but I took too long at the kinkos because some annoying people were hogging the paper cutter and they wouldn’t let me borrow a pair of scissors. I was going to then mail it to http://lesliecrusher.tumblr.com/, because she started it and loves you more than I possibly ever could.
Hearts and Stars,
~Sarah
PS: If you are interested in the evolution of this meme, my Wesley the space princess tag should give you a solid rundown. Also there are tangents like Wesley’s chipmunking of Picard’s sugar cubes and related nonsense. These are all vital, obvys.

They’re tearing apart the hallway outside our office, painting walls, stripping the floors and ceilings. Last week they briefly revealed this awesome door, which they promptly covered with drywall, sealing it up for another 15-20 years.
Such a shame that we’ll probably never get to see it ever again.
