robot-heart-politics reblogged allthingsalishan:“You think abortion is wrong? Don’t have one. I think killing people is wrong, so I’m not in the army. My tax dollars still go to fund it, though (in fact about 21 cents of each of my tax dollars). My tax dollars also go to keep prisoners on death row even though I think the death penalty is morally wrong. My tax dollars fund Guantanamo and Bagram, extraordinary rendition, and Jim DeMint’s salary, all of which I find disgusting. So why is abortion, a legal medical procedure, so remarkably different that we have to go overboard making sure tax dollars don’t fund it?”

Note to self: once you wake up, waking up early isn’t so bad.

“In a slightly less perfect world, workers in America who got the flu would not infect friends, colleagues and total strangers because their bosses would recognize the benefit to their businesses and the employees still standing when highly contagious workers are allowed to recover at home without losing a day’s pay. It’s called paid sick leave.”
— This morning one of my supervisors sent out an e-mail letting us know that if we’re sick and missing work, they’re not going to pay us if we exceed our 1-sick-day-per-quarter leave, if we have more than 3 unpaid days due to being sick it will be considered “excessive absenteeism” (i.e. you can be fired), and if you are actually sick you need a doctor’s note saying you’re not contagious before you can come back.
So, in short, if we are sick we have to stay home, but if we stay home too much (because we are sick), we won’t be paid and we could be fired? Um…what?

Please Be Quiet When Heroes Are Talking of the Day: Philip Spooner, decorated WWII vet and lifelong Republican, speaks out in favor of same-sex marriage:
The woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally, I asked her: “What do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach?”
