    notes from a #professionallady

had my internship interview this morning. got the most perfect placement ever. here’s some things i’ll get to do next year:

    • hang out in court. jackpot.
    • hang out in court sometimes by myself without my supervisor. super jackpot.
    • follow cases and speak in court?!?! like a real future law student?
    • be in charge of things.
    • take notes on my laptop. meaning i will soon be purchasing a trendy/professional briefcase.
    • dress professionally, which, you know, whatever, BUT my interviewer complimented me on my court appropriate dress today so COOL!
    • have my own intern email.
    • drive from the office, to court, to dfacs, to the office, etc.
    • other random intern-type jobs like vacuuming and filing and, believe it or not, mowing the lawn (in heels?).
    • and, in all seriousness, work at this really cool agency and stand up for kids who can’t stand up for themselves and make sure their lives are good. such a God-sanctioned placement.

    Shit happens. Love abounds.

With the various heartbreaks that have happened this semester, I have decided to take a step back and ask myself the question that inspires doubt in so many of us - “Why do bad things happen?”  Here’s what I’ve come to know and believe:

God is sovereign.  God is powerful.  But until His return, evil is present among us.  So does God cause bad things to happen?  No, absolutely not.  Sometimes, because of our free will and the presence of bad around  us, shit just happens.  But I think what’s important to remember, is that because God is so loving and so powerful, He can make incredible things come from disaster.  How does He do this?  In our times of extreme weakness/tiredness/pain/sorrow/brokenness, your heart is more vulnerable.  God sees this and makes Himself incredibly visible for you.  It will be hard for you not to notice Him.  Once you see Him - like really see Him - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will consume you.  With these fruits consuming you, there is no way for good not to happen.

So does God just jump for joy at any chance He gets to make Himself visible to you?  Does He encourage these bad things to happen so He can let Himself in?  After all, the Bible says God is a jealous God.  The answer is no.  When calamity hits, God is just as heart-broken as you are.  And He wants so badly for you to see Him, so He can wrap His comforting arms around you.

“They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble”
    -Jeremiah 31:9

I think everyone should be told they’re beautiful until they believe it.
