I have no idea what you’re talking about.

First time I’ve ever had the confidence to post photos like this, but I’m gaining confidence faster than I can blink, and it feels great!
Hahaha! I sometimes listen to music when doing Tai Chi, but it’ll be the really quiet ones basically made for meditation and such.
It’s even better when doing it in nature though, and you can hear all kinds of soothing sounds around you. Creeks, leaves rustling, birds, a giant passing by, and elf singing…
er wait.
A page from the character bible I’m making for Sister Claire characters. I’ll keep posting these as I finish them. =)
I have no idea why.

I just got a comment on “Sister Claire” that really bothered me, especially since it’s from a longtime fan and reader whose name I have seen often in the comments.
This is what they said:
I’ve been really happy about you not working your.. various.. y’know, issues.. into this comic..
I understand a spirit-thingy not having a gender but I really hope these future plans don’t alienate the other 86 percent.
And this is my reply:
Have you ever considered that stories about straight/cisgendered characters alienate others too? If you’ve enjoyed the story so far, I see no reason why you won’t enjoy where it’s going.
But keep in mind that I write this comic primarily as something I personally would want to read, not for the typical mainstream reader. If I wanted to do that I would work for a big company rather than self-publish.
If you have a problem with my “issues” as you so rudely referred to them- which I assume you mean to be issues of social justice that personally affect me, like homophobia, women’s issues, and issues of gender identity- then I have a surprise for you. You’ve already been reading about it. They were here all along, and will continue to be. Sorry if that ruins your enjoyment of my comic, but maybe if these aspects turn you off, you weren’t the intended audience to begin with.
I’m surprised I haven’t gotten more comments like this before, but I suppose it was only a matter of time. I just think it’s funny how some of my readers can consume my work so blindly and not recognize all the metaphors and social commentary embedded in the narrative. I don’t make a huge, explicit point of them- but the themes are there, and are an important aspect of the story.
I suppose you can only see these clues if you recognize them as something that affects you personally. The minute I make an actual blog post about them, these people are bothered by the fact that they were enjoying a story about someone/something that scares them- like, in this case, a character without a gender.

I made a Kyoshi graphic a couple of days ago and a couple of people expressed the desire to watch a series about her and… I would love that too except let’s be real that filth would have to be on HBO
