YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST LOVE — the tag line will strike you as if the movie was made for you. No, this is not a cheesy movie — in fact it’s very far from it. It is just the type of movie that will make you realize a lot of things, like, not all movies are really worth your tears. Yes, from beginning up to the end, you will find yourself in awe from the fact that it’s as if it’s narrating your own story. You cry with it, laugh with it, not knowing what exact emotion you should have because for a fact you know it’s your story.

A box of eggs, a garden, and a tree — you will not know the real meaning behind the three, unless you watch the movie. Sure, second grade is not really memorable for most of us but it was quite a year for our protagonist; Julie Baker. It was the year where she met her “so-called” love of her life, Bryce Loski. Hoping for a kiss, she tried her best to keep herself as close to him. She thought it was already love, and he was just there not sure on how to react. For 6 years, Julie tried her best to show Bryce who she is for him. Bryce on the other hand are like the usual teenage boys — jerks — looking for someone who has the looks, but not the brains — far from who Julie Baker is.

The special thing about the movie is that each protagonist will narrate to you their own perspective of a certain situation. It’s funny how different it is sometimes, but it is as charming at it is when it is the same. As the story goes, you will eventually create a deep relationship with Bryce’s grandfather, Chet and the Baker’s. You will have this certain connection not only because they’re part of the movie but because they seem like family.

The movie gives an effect like as if it was made in the 60s or 70s. The cinematography sure is quite a success, and to be honest I was quite surprised when I learned that it was filmed just recently. The songs used, the costume, the setting — everything seemed “vintage” which made it more believable.

Madeline Caroll is quite a huge success in this one! Not only she portrayed every single hopeless romantic turned heartbroken girl in each one of us, but she also showed us true courage, and true inspiration.

Callan McAuliffe did make me swoon. His charming “American” looks made it possible for me to think that there could be a “young” version of Captain America. But scratch that! He played Bryce very well — to the point that I understood why Julie Baker’s totally in love with him! Justified indeed.

Over-all, the cast was the epitome of perfection! There’s not a single moment wherein I was wondering why that certain person was there. Everything fit perfectly, everything was awesome! As for the movie, the movie was a huge success! Surely, you will never get tired of it and it is the type that you will recommend to people — not because it’s a nice movie but because it is a lovely and wonderful movie!

PS. The tree means every single thing to the movie. Pay attention to it. ♥

I feel like a failure every five minutes. I get jealous, possessive, upset, and I feel stupid. It’s so self-indulgent and I hate it, but I don’t know how to stop feeling this way. I don’t deserve the people in my life, because I can easily convince myself that they don’t love me, and just put up with me.
