It’s been a lingering thought, but tonight confirmed it: UCLA and my college experience never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I know what to expect when it comes to things such as All-Cal with ACA or SPCN with the Pilipino cast, on the actually day I’m thrown into something I can never imagine.
Just as I understood All-Cal once I finally experienced it, I can say that I now finally understand SPCN. We all worked so hard for this and finally living the hours of showtime, seeing the hype of the dances, witnessing the script at full work, and hearing the voices of my friends whom I had no idea could sing so damn well, I’ve grown to love the production.
It was a crazy day/night: Rehearsing Tinikling and the entire Rural block over and over again, running around Royce Hall getting in costume, finding people, getting food, sleeping in the green room, and finally waiting to get on the stage during showtime.
I have to hand it to script. Words can’t describe how impressed and amazed I was. The story line played with my emotions; it was perfect. I also have to hand it to Singkil, Moro suite killed it. Staying faithful to the tradition of the dance, I was great. As for the Rural Block, Hell F’king Yeah! I’m pretty sure that was our best run-through and having a performance on stage that surpassed the practices is rare. So good.
Alright, I’m exhausted. Just had In-N-Out and about to go into food coma. On a side note I am extremely surprised with the Body Rock 2012 placings: 1. ReQuest Crew 2. Academy of Villains 3. Choreo Cookies. What the heck?!
One hell of a week, one hell of a weekend, and it’s not even over yet.
