The customer sprang to her feet with more agility than her previous collapse would have suggested.
“My baby!” she shouted, collecting the child into her arms. “My baby,” she repeated, once, twice, thrice as she stroked the little girl’s wispy blond hair. “I’m so glad you’re not hurt. Poor little Renata.”
I glanced over my shoulder at the customer, silently questioning the name she’d given her daughter. As someone who had grown up with an uncommon name, I knew all too well the daily aggravation that Poor Little Renata was bound to face.
“Thank you so much for catching her.”
